Join the MEPPI Team!

The Power Systems Engineering Division (PSED) at Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. (MEPPI) serves as the company’s engineering and consultancy arm that helps grid operators, utilities, generators, and major energy users plan, design, and solve complex power-system challenges. Our specialty is delivering tailored services that uncover insights beyond the surface and proactively address technical and commercial risks. Our focus is delivering dependable, low-friction project outcomes, reducing uncertainty around system reliability, schedule, compliance, complexity, stranded capital, and reputational exposure.

MEPPI is seeking a System Studies Engineer with a focus on Electromagnetic Transients (EMT) studies to join our growing consulting team. This position provides an opportunity to work on technically challenging projects involving substation equipment, transmission and distribution systems, renewable energy integration, energy storage systems, HVDC, FACTS, and inverter-based resources.

The successful candidate will perform advanced simulation studies, develop detailed system models, analyze results, and prepare recommendations for power system owners. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys analytical problem-solving, simulation-based engineering, and continuous learning in the evolving power industry.

What You’ll Do:

  • Perform power system studies with focus on insulation coordination, circuit breaker ratings, design verification, harmonics, short-circuit analysis, and grounding.
  • Develop and validate simulation models using EMTP, PSCAD, ASPEN OneLiner, CAPE, and other industry-standard tools.
  • Analyze the performance of transmission systems, substations, renewable generation, BESS, HVDC, FACTS, and other converter-based resources.
  • Execute studies from model development through analysis and reporting while maintaining high technical quality and meeting project schedules.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and recommendations to internal and external customers.
  • Stay current on industry standards, grid planning practices, interconnection requirements, and emerging power system technologies.
  • Contribute to technical papers, conference presentations, and industry publications.
  • Support MEPPI divisions on equipment and application engineering projects.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in electrical engineering with 0-2 years of experience through internships and/or co-op programs with emphasis on electric power engineering, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Basic knowledge of electric power systems, equipment operation, and control.
  • Intermediate interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills required to communicate with customers and employees.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to change within a fast-paced business environment.
  • Familiarity with the following programs, modeling tools, and scripting languages is a plus:
    • Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and related
    • ATP, EMTP, EMTP-RV, PSCAD, MATLAB, ASPEN, CAPE, and CDEGS
    • MATLAB, Java, Python, and others
  • Intermediate knowledge of industry standards and guides (NESC, NERC, IEEE, IEC, and CIGRE).

What’s in It for You:

  • Comprehensive Health Coverage:
    • MEPPI pays up to 90% of the cost for medical, dental, and vision plans.
