About the Role
Our client is seeking a Senior Tax Manager or Director to lead its small business and high-net-worth individual tax pod. This is a pod leadership role — you will own the quality and direction of all work flowing through the team, with essentially 100% review responsibility and minimal to no prep. The right person brings deep expertise in HNW individual taxation, trust and estate work, family tax planning, and wealth transfer strategies, alongside experience serving small business clients. They are ready to step into a senior leadership role within a firm that values long-term client relationships above everything else.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the small business and HNW individual tax pod, overseeing staff and all work product flowing through the pod
Review complex individual tax returns for high-net-worth clients, including trust, estate, and gift tax returns
Review small business returns and serve as a senior technical resource across entity types within the pod
Drive proactive tax planning conversations covering individual tax strategies, family tax planning, gift tax, charitable planning, and wealth and succession planning
Research complex tax issues and develop well-reasoned positions
Manage workflow and priorities across multiple client engagements simultaneously, ensuring quality and deadlines are met
Collaborate with the firm's broader team and clients' outside advisors as appropriate
Contribute to a culture of long-term client relationships, continuity, and exceptional service
Requirements
7+ years of public accounting experience with a strong emphasis on HNW individual and small business taxation
Hands-on experience with trust and estate returns, gift tax, family tax planning, charitable planning, and/or wealth and succession planning
CPA or EA preferred
Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; Master's in Taxation a plus
Prior experience in a senior review or leadership role within a public accounting firm
Excellent judgment, strong technical communication skills, and a genuine commitment to client outcomes
Benefits
Base salary: $150k-$200k+, commensurate with experience
Annual discretionary bonus up to 15%
20 days PTO; overtime beyond 40 hours converts to additional comp time
