Responsibilities

Essential Functions and Primary Duties

 

  • Serve as a SALT subject matter expert for clients within the financial services industry, including asset managers, banks, insurance companies, private credit, fintech, and other financial institutions

  • Lead SALT compliance and consulting engagements addressing complex multistate tax issues unique to financial services organizations, including state and local income tax compliance reviews, income sourcing, apportionment, and nexus considerations

  • Advise clients on state tax implications of financial products, services, and revenue streams, including fee-based income, investment structures, and intercompany transactions

  • Provide technical guidance on state income/franchise, sales/use, and other indirect tax matters impacting financial institutions, including evolving regulatory and compliance expectations

  • Support clients in navigating state tax considerations related to emerging financial models, including fintech platforms, digital payments, and alternative investment structures

  • Conduct nexus and filing footprint analyses for multistate and highly regulated financial services organizations operating across jurisdictions

  • Assist with audit defense, controversy matters, and voluntary disclosures specific to financial services and institutional clients

  • Monitor and communicate developments in state taxation impacting financial institutions, and translate those changes into actionable client guidance

  • Partner with firm leadership to expand CBIZ’s SALT presence within the financial services sector, including identifying new service offerings and market opportunities

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience providing SALT services to financial institutions or financial services clients (e.g., asset management, banking, insurance, private equity, hedge funds, fintech) in the New York Metro area

  • Strong understanding of state tax rules impacting financial services, including apportionment methodologies, sourcing of receipts, and industry-specific nuances

  • Experience advising on complex entity structures and investment vehicles common within financial services

  • Familiarity with regulatory and reporting environments applicable to financial institutions and their state tax implications

  • Exposure to emerging areas such as fintech, digital payments, and digital assets within a broader financial services context is a plus

  • Proven ability to translate complex financial structures into practical SALT strategies and compliance solutions

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 8 years experience in public accounting or related field
  • 5 years supervisory
  • Must have active CPA or equivalent certification
  • Ability to manage all aspects of client engagements
  • Ability to manage deadlines, work on multiple assignments and prioritize each assignment as necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally
  • Proficient use of applicable technology
  • Must be able to travel based on business needs
