About Marathon Fusion
Since our founding in 2023, we've developed fuel cycle technologies to deliver fusion energy more quickly with better economics. Marathon Fusion was founded by Adam Rutkowski, previously a Propulsion Engineer at SpaceX and PhD candidate in Plasma Physics at Princeton University, and Kyle Schiller, previously a Fellow in science policy at Schmidt Futures. We believed then, and now more than ever, that fusion is humanity's best pathway to abundant, clean and reliable energy.
We've secured over $18m in funding from the US Department of Energy and leading investors including 1517 Fund and Strong Atomics. We have letters of intent from leading fusion companies including Helion Energy, Commonwealth Fusion Systems, and Thea Energy.
We've built plasma centrifuges for isotope separation, superpermeable pumps for rapid fuel recycling in fusion power plants. We're on a quest to commercialize alchemy, accelerate the deployment of fusion energy, and open a new frontier in scientific discovery.
Culture at Marathon Fusion

We place particularly high weight on each team member's ability to be self-directed.
Role Description
As our Technical Recruiter & Sourcing Specialist, you will be the engine that drives our technical hiring. This role is a blend of strategic, high-volume sourcing and full-cycle recruitment ownership. You will partner directly with engineering and physics leadership to understand complex requirements and build robust, diverse pipelines for critical roles like Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Research Scientists, and seasonal Engineering Interns.
This role requires a blend of creative sourcing skills and consultative recruitment partnership. You will play a pivotal role in scaling our organization by engaging the most qualified passive talent in the market. This is a 100% remote role.
Application Deadline
January 9, 2026 at 11:59 pm
What You’ll Do:
Lead Direct Sourcing and Pipeline Strategy (Approximately 40% Focus): Proactively identify, engage, and nurture passive technical talent through advanced Boolean searches, GitHub, LinkedIn Recruiter, and other creative channels. You will be responsible for building a robust pipeline for all critical roles.
Manage Full-Cycle Recruitment (Approximately 40% Focus): Own the end-to-end recruitment process from intake to offer close. This includes conducting initial screens to assess technical background and cultural fit, and expertly managing candidate expectations throughout the funnel.
Stakeholder Partnership and Data Strategy (Approximately 20% Focus): Develop collaborative and consultative relationships with hiring managers. You will run weekly pipeline reviews, and utilize recruiting data and market intelligence to refine our hiring strategies and report on progress.
What You’ll Bring
3+ years of hands-on experience in Technical Recruitment or dedicated Technical Sourcing in a fast-paced environment, preferably within a high-growth startup or research/engineering company.
Sourcing Expertise: Demonstrated mastery of non-traditional sourcing methods and ability to generate pipelines for niche, hard-to-fill technical roles (e.g., engineering, physics, R&D).
Visa/Immigration Knowledge: Foundational understanding of US employment-based visas, particularly H-1B, J-1, O-1, and TN, sufficient to screen candidates and articulate necessary next steps to internal teams and external counsel.
Autonomy: Capacity to thrive in ambiguity, drive projects forward independently, take ownership, and flag when results are not moving the needle.
Strong analytical skills and proficiency using Ashby to measure funnel metrics and drive continuous improvement.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, especially in cold outreach and relationship building.
Preferred Experience, But Not Required:
Degree in Physics or Engineering.
Prior experience recruiting for roles involving high voltage, high vacuum, or plasma systems.
Experience managing and negotiating compensation for a dispersed workforce
