Sales Engineer 

Overview 

We are seeking a high-caliber Sales Engineer to serve as a strategic technologist and advisor to our clients in the AEC Industry. This role is the critical bridge between sales and engineering, focused on identifying and scoping high-level data-driven workflow automations. 

Success in this position requires a rare blend of deep technical curiosity and executive presence. You must be able to listen to stakeholders at every level, from C-suite executives focused on ROI to directors managing strategy and "doers" executing daily tasks and translate their challenges into modern automation and integration solutions. 

This is a role supporting a consultative sales methodology. You will understand our customers’ business challenges and design tailored solutions across enterprise systems integration, business / process automation, custom web applications, and enable data insights and AI. 

Key Responsibilities 

Client Engagement & Solution Design 

  • Partner with sales leadership to support discovery, solutioning, and pre-sales efforts 

  • Lead technical and business discovery sessions to understand client workflows, challenges, and goals 

  • Translate business needs into well-structured technical and service-based solutions 

  • Design high-level solution architectures and service approaches 

Pre-Sales & Proposal Support 

  • Develop solution narratives, scopes of work, and high-level estimates 

  • Contribute to proposals and client presentations 

  • Clearly articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders 

  • Partner with delivery teams to ensure proposed solutions are feasible, scalable, and aligned with best practices 

Technical & Strategic Advisory 

  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, helping them evaluate options and make informed decisions 

  • Identify opportunities for expanded services or long-term partnerships 

  • Stay current on emerging technologies, platforms, and best practices in integration, automation, ERP, data, and leveraging AI safely in an enterprise 

  • Advise clients on build vs. buy and a best of breed approach leveraging Autodesk AEC Products and Autodesk Platform Services 

Internal Collaboration 

  • Work closely with Client Success Specialists, software engineers, solution architects, and delivery teams 

  • Ensure smooth handoff from sales to delivery 

  • Provide feedback to leadership on market trends, client needs, and service offerings 

  • Produce high quality documentation on client pain points, client’s systems & processes, key datasets and data flows

This full-time role requires a minimum of 40 hours per week, with additional hours as needed to meet deadlines. Candidates must be able to sit or stand for extended periods, travel between office locations (including those with stairs), and lift up to 30 pounds. Qualifications

Required Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of experience in a Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, or Technical Pre-Sales role. Alternative experience in a thought leadership role in Product Management or Software Engineering combined with exceptional “soft skills” may be considered. 

  • Experience working in a services, consulting, or agency environment 

  • Strong understanding of: 

  • Systems integration including REST APIs, synchronization patterns, and modern cloud based infrastructure architecture 

  • Business process automation 

  • Accounting and Inventory in ERP platforms (e.g., Deltek, Trimble, CMiC, NetSuite, Dynamics, SAP, etc.) 

  • Data warehousing, Data lake, analytics, AI/ML, and reporting concepts 

  • CIO decision making: build vs buy, best of breed, ROI  

  • Proven ability to translate business problems into technical solutions and a sound technology strategy 

  • Experience designing data driven workflows across departments in corporations 

  • Hands on experience with data in multiple IT systems & user processes in multiple industries. 

  • Executive Communication: People skills that exceed your technical skills; an ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and build trust with the C-suite. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Background in consulting, systems integrators, or professional services firms 

  • Experience with ERPs in Purchasing, Sales, Projects, and Inventory 

  • Experience supporting complex, multi-phase implementations 

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) 

  • Experience contributing to or leading discovery workshops

  • Strong collaboration between sales, engineering, and delivery teams
