This is a remote position.

NOTE: This internship is for January-June 2027. Must be US-based, Texas preferred, but open to other state residents if they have a connection to Texas. 


Texas Lifestyle Magazine (TLM) is looking for enthusiastic and committed students who are interested in learning more about working in a lifestyle magazine environment. TLM interns designate their weekly office hours and commit to a minimum of 15 hours per week for 6 months. You’ll have the opportunity to be mentored by publishers and editors. The internship is unpaid, however, you may have the opportunity to earn college credit through your university. The editorial intern will be mentored and supervised by Marika Flatt (co-owner, associate editor, travel editor)


Qualifications:
  • Self-starter with initiative and creativity

  • Positive attitude

  • Exceptional writing skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Independently manage own workflow

  • Excellent time management skills


You will learn and assist as follows:


Editorial

  • Write online magazine pieces

  • Research & pitch story ideas to online and print editors

  • Save images in dropbox and other stories when needed

  • Assist Marika on gift guides and other stories when needed

  • Location scout for travel pieces

  • Email story links to PR firms that assist on stories

  • Request samples and maintain sample request XL sheet

  • Collaborate with social media intern with content posting/execution


Administrative

  • Keep travel PR XL list updated and sort as needed 

  • Plan & organize magazine events

  • Package & mail out giveaway items

  • Collect and save images for stories when needed

  • Reach out to PR firms to get giveaway items as needed

  • Assist for in-kind media sponsorship opportunities, getting them magazines, etc.

  • Maintain and edit TLM Style Guide

  • Redeem Groupon subscriptions and maintain subscription XL list 

  • Maintain and update Important Dates XL sheet

  • Additional projects as assigned

  • Fact check names, locations, websites, etc. for online content 


IT Applications:

  • GoogleApps for Business (gmail/Google docs/sheets)

  • Mac or PC basic skills

  • Wordpress(preferred, but not required)

  • Sproutsocial(preferred, but not required)
