What You'll Do:
Core Responsibilities
1. Daily Compliance Operations
- Handle escalations from day-to-day customs and import activities for the U.S. and Canada.
- Ensure adherence to U.S. CBP and Canadian CBSA requirements, Chewy import policies, and internal SOPs.
- Partner with Chewy Ops and warehouse teams to resolve clearance issues and support timely product availability.
2. Tariff Classification and Product Review
- Review new products for correct HTS classification and applicable trade program eligibility (e.g., USMCA, GSP, Section 301).
- Identify regulatory requirements tied to OGA agencies such as FDA, USDA, or CFIA.
- Support tariff impact analysis for new product introductions and sourcing changes.
3. Permitting and Licensing Programs
- Define import and licensing requirements across multiple regulatory agencies (FDA, USDA, CBSA, etc.).
- Maintain oversight of company records, filings, and renewals to ensure uninterrupted import operations.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure compliance documentation is current and accessible.
4. First Sale for Export Program
- Lead operational execution of Chewy's First Sale for Export program across a multi-country supplier base.
- Partner with suppliers, brokers, and internal stakeholders to ensure valuation data accuracy and program compliance.
- Identify and implement opportunities for customs duty optimization aligned with Chewy's sourcing strategy.
5. Governance and Continuous Improvement
- Develop, implement, and maintain import compliance procedures and training materials.
- Partner with Trade Compliance leadership to identify process improvements that enhance data accuracy and reduce risk.
- Support internal audits, post-entry reviews, and metrics reporting for customs compliance performance.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in International Business, Supply Chain, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in import compliance, customs operations, or trade compliance management.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. import regulations, HTS classification, and valuation methodologies.
- Familiarity with FDA, USDA, and other regulatory agency requirements.
- Experience managing customs broker relationships and trade programs such as First Sale or FTAs.
- Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) preferred.
- Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment with multiple stakeholders.
