POSITION SUMMARY:

The Training and Development Specialist is a subject matter expert on all Outpatient Pharmacy workflow operations.

This position will ensure successful onboarding, leading to well prepared and functional team members. The onboarding process will engage employees by creating a supportive tone and reserving a space for employees to be heard and be active participants in their development. Having a structured and consistent onboarding experience for all employees will help to alleviate any inconsistencies that contribute to employee turnover as well as create the conditions necessary for staff members to reach their full potential in work performance. This specialist will be involved in the training process throughout an employee’s probationary period and will consistently provide feedback to relevant Supervisors and Managers.

Assists in the onboarding and training of all new hires to the department. This will include orientation and training presentations in group settings as well as one on one sessions with staff. The specialist will monitor the new hires progress across pharmacy competencies and communicate this information to the Training and Development Manager and Technician Supervisors.

Acts as an instructor for the Pharmacy Technician Training Program. This will include delivering lectures, overseeing lab activities, and providing one on one guidance to students requiring additional help. Resources from the program will also be used to assist employees seeking PTCB certification across all divisions – inpatient and outpatient - of the Pharmacy Department.

Provide support for training, development of projects with corresponding collateral learning documents, including the creation of e-learning modules, practice tip sheets, and other training tools.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Technician Training

  • Conduct a structured workflow training program that ensures all key competencies needed for an employee’s success are covered.

  • Uses evidence-based procedures to assess the performance of and measure the progress of technicians during the onboarding training program and

  • Assist in the ongoing development of training programs to ensure that all technicians are equipped with the tools and competencies required to be high performers.

  • Increases employee engagement by meeting with staff and acting as a primary vehicle for concerns, issues, etc.

  • Works to solve any employee concerns regarding onboarding and training in collaboration with Technician Supervisors and Training Managers.

  • Employ various teaching methods to ensure that different learning styles are accounted for and represented during the training process.

  • Ensure that technicians are trained on the safest and most effective methods, utilizing department approved best practices.

  • Administer system level training to new hires to the Outpatient and Specialty divisions of the Pharmacy Department.

  • Delivers on-boarding training sessions for all newly hired technician trainees, pharmacy technicians, interns, and pharmacists to the Outpatient Pharmacy Department.

  • Assesses newly hired technicians during their probationary period and provide written documentation supporting assessment conclusions.

  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of an ongoing video library of systems training for the pharmacy management software.

  • Work with technicians that are not meeting their milestone achievements according to a plan approved by the Training and Development Manager.

  • Work with the Training and Development Manager to deliver appropriate feedback to Technician Supervisors.

Pharmacy Technician Training Program

  • Act as an instructor for the Pharmacy Technician Training Program.

  • Provides one to one assistance to students after course lectures as needed.

  • May oversee lab activities for students as required

  • Assists in the onboarding of students to the training program (reviewing paperwork, verifying trainee licenses, etc.)

  • Use program resources to assist newly hired technicians in the department in preparing for their certification exams.

Project Support  

  • Assist in the creation of e-learning modules for Outpatient Pharmacy policies and procedures as needed.

  • Assist in the ongoing maintenance of existing e-learning modules

Provide support for various training and development projects as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Associates degree preferred

              

 CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Must apply for a Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician Trainee license upon hire and obtain before date of hire.

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 4 years progressively responsible experience in an education or operations role.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Energetic, positive, supportive, encouraging and overall pleasant disposition

  • Strong verbal, teaching, and engaging personality skills

  • Strong operational, critical thinking, analytical and strategic planning skills.

  • Pharmacy licensing requirements knowledge, general compliance standards relating rules and regulations of pharmacy practice

  • Demonstrated general knowledge of inventory control system management; computer functions, operation, and support; automation familiarity and operation; advanced system features, etc.

  • Ability to introduce change, implement new programs and strategies and ability to maintain program performance over time and to analyze, organize, and implement operations and procedures.

  • Experience in outpatient and inpatient pharmacy services.

  • High level of interpersonal skills necessary to work with a wide variety of people with proven effectiveness in building and maintaining a strong rapport.

  • The ability to use data to drive performance improvement and evidence-based decisions.

  • Ability to delegate work and responsibilities to others and effectively evaluate their performance.

  • Ability to exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy.

  • Presentation and content development skills

  • High level of proficiency with standard Microsoft programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint [ThinkCell], Outlook) and web browsers.

Compensation Range:

$24.04- $33.65

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
