Role Overview:

Could you be our next Underwriter I? Globe Life is looking for an Underwriter I to join the team!

This role is responsible for evaluating insurance applications and making informed, risk-based decisions to approve policies as standard, rated, or declined while maintaining full regulatory compliance across multiple product lines, including Medicare and health/life offerings. The Underwriter I performs specialized clerical functions, provides expert review of referrals from fellow underwriting team members, and builds strong agent relationships through professional communication.

This is a remote/work-from-home position.

What You Will Do:

  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with field agents, new business teams, underwriting staff, and other Globe Life departments to ensure seamless processing and optimal outcomes for current and future policy applications.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments by thoroughly reviewing and analyzing applicants' health histories utilizing approved underwriting resources, guidelines, and decision-making frameworks.
  • Evaluate medical records, prescription histories, and health-related documentation to determine insurability and appropriate risk classification.
  • Proactively communicate with agents via email to request outstanding compliance documentation and obtain additional information required for informed underwriting decisions while ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain current and comprehensive knowledge of health and life insurance regulations, including federal, state, and company-specific standards, to ensure all underwriting activities comply with legal and organizational requirements.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality standards and protect sensitive applicant information in accordance with HIPAA regulations and company privacy policies.

What You Can Bring:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-2 years of experience in an Underwriter Trainee or Junior Underwriter role.
  • Experience in the insurance industry preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of underwriting principles and risk assessment practices.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.
  • LOMA 280 (Principles of Insurance) and LOMA 290 (Insurance Company Operations) strongly recommended within first year of employment.
  • Pursuit of Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) designation recommended.
