As an Underwriting Transformation Specialist, you will lead critical initiatives that modernize underwriting processes, integrate advanced technologies, and strengthen quality control programs. You are

A proactive, solutions-oriented professional who thrives at the intersection of underwriting, data, AI, and technology. You anticipate industry trends, interpret complex business issues, and recommend best practices that improve efficiency and risk governance. You are comfortable leading projects, influencing stakeholders, and adapting traditional approaches to deliver innovative solutions.

You have
  • Extensive individual life underwriting expertise with the ability to translate business needs into data, AI, and technology-enabled solutions.

  • Experience contributing to modernization initiatives, such as migrating from legacy systems to digital platforms and implementing new data driven workflows.

  • Proven ability working with quality control programs (e.g., Random Holdouts (RHO), Post-Issue Audits (PIA)) that leverage analytics for continuous improvement.

  • Familiarity with emerging technologies (Electronic Health Record (EHR), GenAI, wearable tech) and behavioral economics and how they impact underwriting strategy.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and recommend best practices for risk governance.

  • Experience with creating dashboards and utilizing Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Microsoft PowerBI or Tableau as well as Microsoft Excel; ability to interpret trends using performance metrics.

  • Influence and collaboration skills to align diverse stakeholders and drive adoption of new tools and processes

  • Change leadership mindset, comfortable challenging precedent and introducing innovative approaches to improve efficiency and customer experience.

  • Knowledge of data governance and compliance in digital underwriting.

You will
  • Help oversee the creation, monitoring, and enhancement of life underwriting rules and AI systems for automated platforms, ensuring they evolve with emerging data sources and predictive analytics to maintain competitive advantage.

  • Assist in managing the transition from legacy systems to a modern underwriting workbench, driving adoption, training, and continuous improvement to enable digital-first workflows.

  • Conduct end-to-end impact tracing for opportunities and issues, mapping upstream inputs (e.g., data sources, assumptions, dependencies) and downstream outcomes (e.g., operational processes, customer experience, production underwriting impacts), and drive timely mitigation or value capture through cross-functional coordination and measurable action plans.

  • Partner with the medical director and underwriting leadership to design a next-generation application for life and disability insurance that integrates automation and customer-centric features.

  • Manage medical risk and vendor relationships to calibrate prescription history rules or data science models using advanced data insights and ensure protective value in a fluidless environment.

  • Collaborate across the enterprise, including with technology, data science, and actuarial teams, to prioritize initiatives that leverage AI, predictive analytics, and actuarial expertise, ensuring underwriting remains scalable and competitive.

  • Create documentation and procedures to establish and sustain a robust quality control program for fluidless underwriting (e.g., RHO, PIA), leveraging analytics to identify trends and inform refinements.

  • Assist in validating and selecting innovative underwriting tools and initiatives, including EHR, GenAI, wearable technology, and behavioral economics which will ensure readiness for integration and operational impact.

  • Partner with data science teams to develop and refine AI models that enhance underwriting automation and predictive accuracy and work closely with actuarial teams to align risk assessment methodologies with enterprise standards.

  • Support underwriting operations during peak periods by applying expertise to complex cases while championing digital tools and data-driven decision-making.

Reporting Relationships
  • As our Underwriting Transformation Specialist, you will report to our Underwriting Manager.

Location
  • This is a remote position.

Travel
  • Less than 10% Travel required for this position

Salary Range:

$86,210.00 - $141,635.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
