The Role
The Noise and Vibration Performance Engineer is responsible for ensuring that a vehicle meets its targeted noise and vibration performance. This engineer works as part of a vehicle development team and focuses on integrating components and subsystems so the final product delivers a quiet, smooth, and refined driving experience. This engineer uses analysis and component or vehicle testing to achieve desired noise and vibration performance and meet objective and subjective requirements. They work with vehicle design teams to define subsystem and component requirements. Noise and Vibration includes work on one or more of the following areas : Powertrain ( engine mounting, engine, transmission, hybrid systems) , Engine accessory drive (alternator, etc.), Driveline and AWD (differentials, drive shafts), Exhaust tuning (muffler design), Air Induction (air filter housing and ducts), Body and Component structure (vibration modes of body structure and deflections), Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC compressors, fans, module noise), Wind noise (aerodynamic shapes, door seal design), Squeak and Rattle (total vehicle) , Interior Acoustics (absorption material, sound barriers), Body Sealing(water and contaminant control) and more. Engineers will typically be assigned primarily to one of the areas described. Consults with senior engineers and supervisor as required.

What You'll Do
- Evaluates vehicles, subsystems, and/or components for noise and vibration performance - both objectively with measurements and subjectively.
- Sets up and operates test and data collection devices (sound recording, accelerometers, etc.) and measurement tools to test effects of calibration and hardware changes on noise and vibration. Work is done on test track and/or in specialized test facilities (dynamometers, wind tunnel, shaker rigs, water test chambers and other)
- Develop technical solutions to noise issues - propose design changes to components and subsystems that address concern. Prove solutions work through testing and evaluations of experimental versions. Work with assembly plant or suppliers to implement changes. Evaluate production version of solutions proposed by design groups and/or suppliers.
- Develop and execute vehicle testing plan to optimize performance while balancing with mass and cost considerations. Plan must meet timing needs defined by program.
- Work jointly with other vehicle integration areas, the powertrain noise team, and the Lead Engineer to balance vehicle needs - mass, fuel economy, ride and handling, manufacturing, safety, etc.
- Perform data analysis of measurements (frequency analysis, modal vibration analysis, etc.) LMS and Matlab are commonly used.
- Work jointly with analytical engineers to apply math models to guide testing and development. Use test data to correlate models to reality and make them more accurate
- Supports assembly plant when vehicle begins production to resolve any issues with performance of production cars
- Travel on occasional test trips to other parts of the USA or globally to evaluate performance or support global testing
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Physics, or a related engineering/science discipline.
- 5+ years' related experience
- Strong engineering foundation -understands Physics
- Interest in acoustics, sound, cars, trucks, and vehicle behavior.
- Good driving record and comfort driving test vehicles.
- Ability to follow engineering methods, document work, participate in reviews, and meet timing requirements.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively in teams with strong interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated, eager to learn, and proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Experience with analytical tools, math modeling, or software such as MATLAB.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Master's degree in a related engineering or science field.
- Experience with NVH-related tools (e.g., LMS, modal analysis, frequency analysis).
- Hands-on automotive experience and strong passion for vehicles.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- DFSS Green Belt certification.
- Familiarity with the Global Vehicle Development Process.
- Ability to mentor or assist less-experienced engineers.
- A sense of humor and enjoyment of collaborative, team-driven work environments.
