Role Overview:
As Vice President, Corporate Controller, you will be a key strategic partner to the CFO, leading Teachstone’s financial transformation and preparing the company for its next phase of growth, and supporting long-term financial planning in preparation for potential future growth opportunities, such as strategic partnerships or an initial public offering. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you will oversee all accounting operations to build a public-company-ready function that ensures accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting. This role is both strategic and hands-on, responsible for creating scalable processes, establishing robust internal controls, and partnering across the organization to enhance financial decision-making. You will build and lead the accounting function through its modernization efforts and be a critical contributor to the overall financial & administrative strategy of the company.
Role Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of accounting, including general ledger, project accounting, AP/AR, payroll, revenue recognition, and month-end close.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage audit activities and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
  • Collaborate with the Tax director and outside advisors on implementing the tax strategy.
  • Establish, document, and maintain a robust system of internal controls sufficient to withstand Big Four audit scrutiny for a public offering.
  • Partner with the CFO to own and manage the annual budgeting and forecasting processes, providing data-driven financial models and analysis.
  • Evaluate and improve accounting systems and tools to drive efficiency and scale.
  • Drive automation and process improvement initiatives to streamline workflows.
  • Support pricing, margin analysis, and financial modeling in collaboration with finance leadership.
  • Partner with the CFO and other executives to provide actionable financial insights.
  • Build, scale, and mentor a high-performing accounting team, including assessing current talent and hiring for key roles to support strategic growth.

Role Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA required.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 4+ years in a leadership role.
  • Deep understanding of GAAP and internal control frameworks, with experience designing and implementing public-company-ready controls.
  • Demonstrated expertise in complex technical accounting areas, including ASC 606 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers), ASC 718 (Stock-Based Compensation), and capitalization of software development costs.
  • Proven experience in modernizing accounting operations and leading process improvement initiatives in a high-growth environment.
  • Experience managing audits and working with external advisors.
  • Strong systems orientation; experience with Salesforce, Certinia (formerly FinancialForce), and ERP implementations preferred.
  • Highly proficient in Excel and financial reporting tools.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Collaborative and proactive leadership style with a strong sense of accountability.

What We Offer:

  • Fair, Competitive Pay:  We ensure equal pay for equal work, using consistent salary bands based on market benchmarks, reviewed annually. Prior salaries, negotiation skills, or fear of conflict don’t influence your pay.
  • Salary Range: $155,000 - $180,000, determined by your experience and skills.
