Position Overview:

The Vice President of Platform Engineering is responsible for the vision, strategy, and execution of Vibrant’s platform engineering capabilities, including the design, development, and operation of unified technology platforms that support the organization’s mission and scale. This role leads the technical architecture, platform strategy, and engineering execution for core systems, including the 988 Unified Platform, Here2Help Unified Platform, and Center Management Tool, ensuring they are secure, scalable, reliable, and aligned with business and user needs. This role also oversees AI/ML operations (MLOps), ensuring scalable, ethical, and compliant deployment of machine learning models and AI-powered features across platforms.

Partnering closely with the Chief Technology Officer, product leadership, and executive stakeholders, the Vice President translates organizational priorities into platform strategies, roadmaps, and objectives while stewarding financial, technical, and human resources across Platform Engineering.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Define and own the overall technical vision, architecture, and technology stack for Vibrant’s unified platforms
  • Partner with the CTO on long-term platform strategy, roadmap, and investment priorities
  • Collaborate with product owners and organizational leaders to align platform strategy with business goals, user needs, and funding realities
  • Prioritize near-term delivery needs while ensuring long-term scalability, security, and sustainability of platform solutions
  • Establish objectives and key results (OKRs) for platform engineering teams
  • Define and execute talent strategy for Platform Engineering, including recruitment, development, and succession planning
  • Lead platform engineering teams responsible for executing platform roadmaps, including CRM, contact center systems, software engineering, and DevOps
  • Translate product requirements into robust, flexible, and secure technical solutions
  • Own and oversee user-facing platforms (e.g., CRM), interaction management systems (e.g., contact center solutions), and contact routing technologies (telephony, video, chat)
  • Establish and oversee AI/ML operations (MLOps) infrastructure, including model training pipelines, deployment workflows, monitoring systems, and governance frameworks for responsible AI
  • Oversee DevOps, automation, testing, and reliability practices to ensure high availability and performance
  • Establish and manage external vendor relationships, contracts, and strategic partnerships
  • Ensure platform initiatives are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with organizational priorities
  • Serve as a senior technology leader and advisor to executive leadership, ensuring alignment between technology strategy and organizational goals
  • Communicate platform strategy, progress, and outcomes to executives with varying levels of technical expertise
  • Mentor and develop senior engineering and technical leaders; conduct performance reviews and support leadership growth
  • Foster a healthy, inclusive, and high-performing engineering culture grounded in accountability, collaboration, and mission impact
  • Motivate teams to achieve objectives while retaining and developing top technical talent Governance, Decision-Making & Accountability
  • Evaluate technical, operational, and organizational risks impacting platform delivery and long-term strategy
  • Approve decisions that commit significant financial, technical, and human resources within Platform Engineering
  • Establish and enforce policies, standards, and best practices governing platform development and operations
  • Ensure compliance with organizational, regulatory, and public health–related requirements as applicable, including HIPAA, FedRAMP, NIST cybersecurity frameworks, and federal data governance standards

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Executive-level experience defining and executing platform engineering and technology strategies
  • Deep expertise in technical architecture, systems integration, DevOps, AI/ML operations (MLOps), testing, and automation best practices, including experience with machine learning model deployment, monitoring, and governance
  • Proven ability to lead multiple engineering teams and large-scale, mission-critical platforms
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, vendor management, and resource allocation
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with executive stakeholders and external partners
  • Experience preparing and delivering executive- and Board-level presentations
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to balance risk, innovation, and operational stability
  • Exceptional communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated commitment to building inclusive, empowered, and high-performing teams

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including 5+ years in technology delivery roles and 10+ years in senior leadership or executive roles
  • 10+ years of experience leading platform engineering, software engineering, or large-scale technology organizations
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering technology solutions in compliance with federal requirements, including SAMHSA, HHS, and crisis services standards
  • Experience implementing AI/ML operations (MLOps) practices, including model lifecycle management, automated training/deployment pipelines, bias detection and mitigation, and responsible AI governance
  • Proficiency with crisis services technology platforms, including contact center systems, CRM platforms, and multi-channel engagement tools (voice, text, chat, video)
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple teams and complex technology portfolios
  • Strong project and program management experience
  • Expertise in finance, data integrity, communication, and enterprise software tools
  • Experience in public health, public policy, mental health, nonprofit, or startup environments strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Bachelor’s degree (and/or years in lieu)

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Will frequently communicate over video calls with internal and external stakeholders.

The range listed reflects the compensation parameters for the role and does not represent the full compensation package.
