Position Summary

This position is based in Europe.

The VP of Business Development, Europe will be responsible for driving Powerline's commercial growth across Europe, with an initial focus on Great Britain. As one of Powerline's most senior commercial leaders, this individual will identify, develop, and close strategic opportunities with battery storage owners, renewable energy developers, independent power producers (IPPs), utilities, traders, and energy asset operators.

The ideal candidate combines deep industry relationships, strong commercial instincts, and a proven ability to open doors and close complex enterprise software and services deals. They will serve as the face of Powerline in Europe, helping establish the company as a trusted partner to leading participants in the energy transition.

This is a highly entrepreneurial role. Initially, the VP of Business Development will operate as an individual contributor responsible for originating and closing business. Over time, the role may evolve into building and leading a broader commercial organization across Europe. As Powerline’s VP of BD, you will:

  • Develop and execute Powerline's European business development strategy.

  • Build, maintain, and leverage relationships with senior decision-makers across the market.

  • Generate, qualify, and advance a robust pipeline of commercial opportunities.

  • Leverage your deep knowledge and understanding of the market to help shape the company’s strategy to establish Powerline as a trusted partner and thought leader within the European energy ecosystem.

  • Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships that accelerate market adoption and commercial growth.

  • Develop strategies, timelines, and the necessary relationships for such strategic partnerships.

  • Represent Powerline at industry conferences, customer events, and executive meetings.

  • Maintain a deep understanding of European power markets, battery storage economics, renewable energy operations, and market trends.

  • Gather customer feedback and market intelligence to inform product strategy, positioning, and go-to-market initiatives.

  • Help refine Powerline's messaging, positioning, and value proposition based on customer

    interactions and market dynamics.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the executive team on European market strategy and growth opportunities.

  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, marketing, legal, and customer success teams to support customer acquisition and expansion.

  • As Powerline expands, recruit, mentor, and lead additional business development and commercial team members.

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of experience in business development, enterprise sales, strategic partnerships, or

    commercial leadership within the renewable energy, battery storage, utility, power trading, or energy technology sectors.

  • Demonstrated success sourcing and closing complex commercial agreements with enterprise customers.

  • Strong network of relationships across battery storage, renewable energy, utilities, IPPs, traders, asset owners, and infrastructure investors.

  • Deep understanding of European power markets and battery energy storage systems.

  • Exceptional relationship-building, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced startup environment.

  • Willingness to travel throughout Europe.

Preferred

  • Experience selling software, analytics, optimization, AI, SaaS, or energy technology solutions.

  • Experience working with battery storage owners, traders, and asset managers.

  • Experience scaling commercial operations within a high-growth startup environment.

  • Technical background in engineering, energy markets, economics, or a related field.

  • MBA or advanced degree is a plus.
