We believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. We recognize that mental health issues can be complex and multifaceted, and we are dedicated to treating the whole person, not just the symptoms.
We aim to create a world where mental health is no longer stigmatized or marginalized, but rather is embraced as an integral part of one's overall well-being.
We believe that by providing quality care that is both evidence-based and compassionate, we can empower individuals to take charge of their mental health and achieve their full potential. We are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of those struggling with mental health issues and we strive to be a force for positive change in the field of mental healthcare.
Rula is a remote-first company. We currently hire in most U.S. states, with the exception of Hawaii.
The Opportunity
At Rula, we are transforming mental healthcare by making it more accessible and effective. We are seeking a VP of Data and Infrastructure to serve as the strategic architect of our technical foundation. This is a high-impact executive role reporting directly to our SVP of Engineering.
You will lead a multi-layered organization of ~50 people across Cloud Platform, Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Data Engineering. Your mission is to evolve Rula’s infrastructure from a service provider into a strategic engine that powers our mission to scale mental healthcare through data-driven insights and unmatched developer velocity.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Define and execute a multi-year mission and vision for the Infrastructure and Data organizations, ensuring perfect alignment with Rula’s business growth and security goals.
Platform & Developer Experience: Oversee the design and operation of an internal cloud platform and developer toolchain that maximizes velocity and operational excellence across all product teams.
Data & Analytics Strategy: Lead the Data Engineering function to ensure Rula’s data architecture is scalable, reliable, and provides a competitive advantage for the business.
Operational Excellence: Own the resiliency, availability, and security of all global hosting environments, compute services, and storage.
Financial Stewardship: Develop and execute a comprehensive AWS cost management and FinOps strategy to balance rapid scaling with fiscal responsibility.
Executive Collaboration: Serve as a core member of the Engineering Leadership Team (EngLT), building deep "first-team" partnerships with leaders in Application Engineering, Security, and Architecture.
Scalable People Management: Lead a high-performing organization of managers and ICs, championing a culture of servant leadership, career development, and technical excellence.
Qualifications
Executive Experience: 15+ years in software engineering with 8+ years in senior leadership (VP or Sr. Director level), ideally within a mature startup or scaled engineering organization (150+ engineers).
Infrastructure Mastery: Proven track record managing cloud operations in a SaaS environment (AWS preferred), including global networking, identity management (IAM), and foundational infrastructure.
Data Expertise: Deep experience overseeing data and analytics engineering organizations, with a focus on building scalable data pipelines and governed architectures.
Regulated Industry Success: Significant experience operating within HIPAA-compliant or similarly regulated environments (e.g., FinTech).
Relationship Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multi-million dollar third-party vendor relationships and complex contract negotiations.
Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical strategies to the board of directors and executive peers, gaining cross-functional buy-in.
We're serious about your well-being! As part of our team, full-time employees receive:
100% remote work environment: Working hours to support a healthy work-life balance, ensuring you can meet both professional and personal commitments (must be based in United States, currently not hiring in Hawaii)
