The VP of Game Design for Marvel Strike Force is a top-level and strategic leader responsible for championing a player experience for our audience and setting the game’s creative direction in areas such as tone, style, and content.
As VP of Game Design, you will establish and maintain key game design documents to guide the team’s progress, pillars, and day-to-day efforts. You will drive the vision for high-level creative and game direction to the Game Design and Experience Design organizations, give direction on where the game should be going, give feedback to shape work-in-progress, and give approval for completed game-related work before it goes live.
You will also work with the Game Design Director and UX Director to oversee the design pipeline to establish initial goals, approve the design documents at each major gate, and review and approve the work through development and launch.
This person will play a pivotal role in setting goals and priorities for Marvel Strike Force development and maintaining a long-term product roadmap with the intent to run a successful business on the foundation of a great game.
What You Will Do- Define, align, and execute the creative direction and tone of the game.
- Develop the game strategy and product roadmap in partnership with cross-functional game leads.
- Ensure that the vision is current and aligned with changing market trends, user feedback, and business goals.
- Ensure that the game meets the highest quality standards for gameplay, balance, longevity, and player experience.
- Set clear and measurable creative goals for the team to work towards from the inception of a new initiative through its launch.
- Educate the development team on the creative vision, goals, and reasoning for understanding both where we’re going and why.
- Take ownership of strategic direction in service of “making a great game”, in close partnership with product stakeholders who are championing the needs of a successful business.
- Manage relationships with partners, such as community, insights, and user experience, to ensure information is shared effectively and differing perspectives are heard.
- Provide clear and actionable feedback on work-in-progress
- Review work-in-progress regularly to ensure that project goals, quality expectations, and timelines are met
- Ensure Marvel Strike Force meets the highest quality standards for design, gameplay, and player experience
- Foster a culture of creativity and innovation within the development team and encourage team members to take risks and explore new ideas
- 10+ years of game design experience for F2P and Midcore/RPG games, including experience as a Creative Director, Game Director, or comparable design leadership role
- Deep understanding of mobile game development
- Experience with shipped content that is directly the result of work that can be reviewed - level designs, gameplay mechanics, game features, etc.
- Balanced innovative direction for a game that is tried and true and can appeal to players around the world
- Extensive experience working on live service games; deep understanding of highly engaging content and how to deliver it
- Strong history as a member of a cross-functional, multidisciplinary team
- Self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and resourceful
- Ability to communicate with authenticity, intention, and curiosity.
- Strategic thinker who can delegate effectively but also jump in when needed.
- BA/BS or + degree in Economics, Business Administration, Math, Computer Science, or other relevant degrees.
