Who we are
At Fortis Games we aspire to make great games that bring people together while redefining how game companies work. We believe in building a sense of belonging through our games, their communities, and how we operate and treat each other. Through our game communities, we will create powerful connections and lasting memories. We will foster a culture of diversity, equity and belonging where together our diverse skills, experiences and backgrounds impact the games we make.
We are an early but mighty organization with a leadership team of game industry veterans. There are many opportunities for you to have a big impact on the products we'll be making as well as the overall direction of the company. If you're passionate about tackling difficult problems with direct and thoughtful communication and team first mentality, we may be the right place for you.

About the Role

As Vice President of Game Engineering, you will lead the engineering discipline across our mobile-first portfolio of free-to-play live service games. This role is critical to Fortis’ continued scale and success, ensuring that our game engineering teams are equipped to deliver high-quality titles consistently and sustainably.

Reporting into the executive team, you’ll manage and mentor Technical Directors across our global studio, set and uphold engineering standards, and drive operational excellence with rapid validation progress and iteration speed as key measures of success. You’ll be the connective tissue of the game engineering organization — aligning people, processes, and tools with our portfolio goals, while advocating for engineering at the highest levels of leadership.

You will partner closely with our central technology teams (Platform, Infrastructure, Data, QA) but will not directly oversee them — instead, you will ensure seamless collaboration so that shared tech investments accelerate game team delivery.

What You’ll Achieve

  • Build and evolve the game engineering organization to meet portfolio needs with clear structure, strong leadership, and effective cross-team collaboration.
  • Mentor and grow Technical Directors across all game teams, enabling autonomous, high-performing technical leadership across teams.
  • Champion engineering workflows that prioritize speed and ease of use. From project setup and live service integration to release processes, shared tooling, and QA practices. Ensure teams can move fast, stay efficient, and focus on delivering great games.
  • Own and evolve client-side shared technology - ensuring common frameworks, Unity integrations, and game-side tools accelerate delivery across teams while staying easy to use, reliable, and high-quality.
  • Establish and uphold best practices for code quality, performance optimization, observability, and maintainable technical documentation.
  • Partner across disciplines (Product, Design, Art, Data, QA, Publishing) to ensure engineering is a proactive and solutions-oriented partner throughout the game lifecycle.
  • Lead talent strategy for game engineering - recruiting, hiring, and retaining exceptional talent, explicitly serving as a bar-raiser for technical and leadership excellence.
  • Manage resource allocation across game teams, making data-informed decisions to balance priorities, optimize workloads, and respond to changing portfolio needs.
  • Advocate for engineering in executive forums, ensuring the discipline has visibility, support, and alignment with company-wide priorities.

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

  • Proven track record as a VP or senior engineering leader within a games company, leading multi-team organizations delivering live or service-based titles.
  • Experience managing and developing Technical Directors, and building technical leadership capacity across distributed, multi-location teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to design organizations, optimize workflows, and integrate new technologies (including AI) to accelerate development.
  • Strong technical credibility with deep experience in Unity and games as a service, and a forward-looking perspective on multi-platform development.
  • Deep understanding of the game development lifecycle, including live operations and content update pipelines, and how engineering enables repeatable, high-quality delivery.
  • Skilled communicator able to inspire, align, and influence across disciplines, seniority levels, and cultures.
  • Passion for building healthy, high-performing teams grounded in accountability, craft excellence, and shared purpose.
  • Ability to lead with autonomy, clarity, and focus, aligning engineering execution tightly with business goals.
  • Expertise in agile practices and hypothesis-driven development, with the ability to foster a culture of learning and iteration.

Why join us
There are many reasons to join us, but here are a few:

  • We strongly believe we are changing how games studios operate and at the core of what we do is making great games that create a connected community
  • We're not just about making Games Where You Belong. We're also about building communities where our people belong. That's why Fortis is a thriving environment that celebrates diversity, embraces inclusivity, and fosters growth.
  • Build and grow with a seasoned team of accomplished talent who have left an impactful mark in their disciplines, both in and out of gaming
