ARE YOU READY TO TAKE YOUR CAREER TO NEW HEIGHTS? ARE YOU SEEKING A NEW CHALLENGE IN A DYNAMIC SECTOR?

This is a very exciting and highly innovative time here at Outside.

OUR TRUE NORTH:Outside Interactive, Inc., the premier hub for active lifestyle enthusiasts, offers best-in-class content and experiences to more than 70 million of the world’s most passionate outdoor, wellness, and endurance enthusiasts every month. We inspire a broad and diverse audience to do the activities they love with greater enjoyment, inspiration, and knowledge and are dedicated to making real change in the outdoor and fitness industries.

We deliver on that vision through the Outside flywheel: we inspire people through media and content, activate them through our mapping and tracking products, celebrate their activities through community and shared experience, and feed that celebration back into inspiration for the next person. The Mapping Applications Division — Trailforks, Gaia GPS, MapMyFitness, and what comes next — is the activation engine at the center of that flywheel.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a VP of Marketing to lead Brand Marketing, Growth Marketing, and Experiential Marketing for the Mapping Applications Division. Our growth strategy is organic-first — built on authentic brand and community in our core sport verticals — with paid acquisition layered on top to amplify what’s working. You will own that strategy, build the team to execute it, and treat the marketing system itself as a product you ship.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Lead and develop the Brand, Growth, and Experiential Marketing team, transforming an early-stage function into a best-in-class marketing organization.
  • Drive organic growth as the primary engine for the portfolio, layering paid acquisition on top to amplify what is working rather than to compensate for what is not.
  • Position Outside as the brand leader across our core sport verticals — mountain biking, backcountry, trail running, walking, and what comes next.
  • Build experiential programs that create and nurture authentic communities in each of those verticals, showing up where they actually form: dig days, races, group rides, run clubs, and the events that anchor each sport.
  • Own the full subscriber lifecycle for our mapping products: acquisition, activation, retention, and reactivation.
  • Architect the martech stack as a product, with clear system diagrams, defined inputs and outputs, instrumented measurement, and a steady experimentation cadence.
  • Apply AI and agentic coding to compound the team’s output, automate growth workflows, and reduce SaaS spend wherever possible.
  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Editorial leaders, bringing informed opinions on the product itself, not just the marketing of it.
WHO YOU ARE
  • You have led Brand, Growth, or Experiential Marketing at a Director level or above, with deep experience marketing subscription products and a working command of LTV, CAC, retention, and payback economics.
  • You believe durable growth comes from authentic brand and community first, and that paid acquisition amplifies rather than replaces that organic foundation.
  • You are energized by joining a team that needs structure, focus, and standards, and excited to build it into something exceptional.
  • You are a systems thinker who reaches for diagrams, instrumentation, and experiments before reaching for tactics.
  • You are an active adopter of AI and agentic workflows in your own day-to-day work, and you push your team to do the same.
  • You are eager to test and scale emerging marketing channels — new social platforms, agentic consumer destinations like AI assistants and recommendation agents, and whatever comes next — and to fold them into a deliberate marketing portfolio.
  • You operate beyond traditional functional lines and hold informed product opinions.
  • You have a deep, personal affinity for getting outside.
