As Vice President, Security Technology, you will help lead, scale, and mature R1’s enterprise security program. Reporting to the CISO, you will translate security strategy into operational execution across the technologies and capabilities that protect R1’s enterprise.
This role balances the need to strengthen core security maturity with the demands of fast-moving business growth, integrations, new ventures, and global initiatives. You will have significant executive exposure and responsibility for budget, talent, and investment decisions across a broad security technology portfolio.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with the CISO to define and execute the enterprise security strategy, roadmap, operating model, and investment priorities.
- Lead security architecture and engineering, employee identity and access management, cloud security, cyber threat and exposure management, offensive security, AI security, and related transformation initiatives.
- Rebuild and mature employee identity and access management capabilities, including modern identity practices and zero trust principles.
- Modernize vulnerability management into a continuous threat and exposure management program.
- Assess, rationalize, and optimize the security technology stack to improve effectiveness, scalability, and value.
- Translate strategic objectives into measurable programs, operational plans, KPIs, KRIs, and security outcomes.
- Provide executive leadership during major security incidents and support preparedness, tabletop exercises, continuity integration, and recovery planning.
- Partner across technology, operations, legal, compliance, privacy, risk, product, and business leadership to embed security into enterprise priorities and growth initiatives.
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing organization, including succession planning, talent development, budget ownership, and hiring decisions.
- Present security strategy, risk, metrics, and investment recommendations to executive leaders in concise, business-focused terms.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 15+ years of progressive security and information technology experience, including 10+ years leading large-scale technology teams and enterprise programs.
- Demonstrated success leading enterprise security functions across multiple technical domains in a complex, regulated organization.
- Deep experience in security architecture and engineering, identity and access management, cloud security, vulnerability or exposure management, and security transformation.
- Proven experience modernizing security capabilities while supporting rapid business change, integrations, acquisitions, joint ventures, or new ventures.
- Executive presence and the ability to influence senior technology, business, risk, and compliance leaders.
- Experience owning budgets, setting investment priorities, making hiring decisions, and developing senior security leaders.
- Ability to lead through ambiguity, organizational change, and high-pressure security events.
- Industry certification such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, CRISC, or equivalent is preferred.
- Experience in financial services, large-scale healthcare, or technology-enabled services is preferred.
- Occasional travel may be required for leadership meetings and business needs.
