Design and build a new accessible Shopify eCommerce website for a Palestinian fashion brand. Responsibilities include customizing the theme, creating product and digital-pattern sales, setting up events and workshops, developing blog and educational content, and establishing clear purchase and learning journeys. The site must be maintainable by a nontechnical owner and launched by the end of the year or early January.
This is a remote position.
Design and build a new eCommerce website for a Palestinian fashion brand rooted in tatreez, ready for a new collection launch.
Organization: Confidential client in the fashion/retail sector; the name will be shared with shortlisted candidates before the client interview
Location: Remote - open to candidates in Palestine, especially Gaza
Role Type: Project-based | Consultant-contractor | Fixed term (launch by end of year, no later than January)
Reports to: Brand Founder
The opportunity
Our client is a small, slowly growing Palestinian fashion brand built around tatreez. They are seeking a Website Designer (Shopify) to design and launch a brand-new website. In this role, you will take the brand's existing logo, color kit, photography, and content and turn them into a polished, accessible online home that immediately communicates who the brand is. This is a launch of something new rather than maintenance of existing pages: the current self-built site is not functional, no product pages exist yet, and everything needs to be ready before a new collection arrives at the end of the year.
About the organization
Our client's longer-term vision is to grow the brand into a small fashion house: hiring Palestinian makers to create tatreez pieces, and offering workshops where people can learn tatreez beyond the basics and tell their own story through stitching. All current sales happen through Shopify, and the site needs to serve two audiences at once: people who want to purchase, and people who want to learn.
What you will do
- Design and implement the full build in Shopify, the platform where all of the client's sales live.
- Set up shop and checkout for fewer than 10 products, plus digital patterns available for purchase.
- Build an Events page where people can purchase workshops and join monthly community circles.
- Create space for educational content and a blog, alongside a tatreez pattern library serving both learners and buyers.
- Design clear paths through the site: one for people who want to purchase, one for people who want to learn.
- Customize the theme at a level beyond a stock template: editing layouts, sections, and product templates (via the theme editor and/or Liquid/HTML/CSS).
- Ensure the site is accessible, easy to navigate, and ready for handoff so a non-technical owner can maintain it herself.
What you bring
- Portfolio showing eCommerce sites built in Shopify.
- Experience designing and building sites that mix purposes: store, marketing/content pages, and event or education pages.
- Shopify theme customization experience: editing layouts, sections, and product templates via the theme editor and/or Liquid/HTML/CSS, not just installing and lightly tweaking a stock theme.
- Experience building product pages, digital product purchases, a blog, and an events/booking page in Shopify.
- A design approach that prioritizes accessibility.
- Availability to begin and complete the work by end of year or early January at the latest.
- Basic English is sufficient; the client speaks some Arabic herself, and strong English is not required.
Helpful, but not essential
- SEO knowledge.
- Experience with digital pattern or downloadable product sales.
- Interest in or familiarity with tatreez, Palestinian craft, or heritage brands.
How the engagement works
Contracting party: You will contract directly with Apricot, which will manage contracting, invoicing/payroll, payments, and administrative support. Day to day, you will work directly with the brand's founder.
For this project-based engagement, the timeline is fixed: launch before the end of the year, ideally no later than January, ahead of a new collection. Working hours are flexible with no fixed schedule required. The site must be delivered in a clean, maintainable state: the client will handle her own ongoing updates to products, blog posts, and the events page, so simple self-service upkeep is the goal. The client will provide her logo, color kit, all photography, and all content.
Planned check-ins are scheduled per each delivered milestone to see how the engagement is working and help address any issues.
