Busy Month for Big Hires: 6 Austin Tech Companies Welcome New Leaders

Some of Austin’s leading tech heavyweights made executive leadership changes over the past month, including four new CEOs and several new C-level positions. Take a look at the latest six companies experiencing new leadership.

CSDC System officially relocated its headquarters from Canada to Austin this month, announcing two key executive hires along the way. Erin Mulligan Nelson took over as CEO, and Brian Thomson as the company’s first CFO.

Nelson, who is deeply connected in the Austin tech scene, joins the team from SunPower Corp., where she held the CMO role. She also served as CMO at Bazaarvoice and Dell. She is an adviser at Rivet Works Inc. and Abundant Venture Partners and is founder of Bloom Ventures.

Thomson previously held the CFO role at Austin-based Kinnser Software and at Rackspace.

At the end of October, Epicor CEO and President Joe Cowan will step down from his leadership and board roles to retire. Taking his place will be former president of OpenText Stephen Murphy.

Murphy’s 20-year career in technology includes leadership roles in sales and operations at Oracle, Sun Microsystems and Manugistics. He also led global logistics, supply chain strategy and enterprise resource planning implementations with Accenture and Procter & Gamble.

Mission Capital, an Austin-based accelerator program serving nonprofit and social good startups and entrepreneurs, announced that Madge Vasquez as CEO effective Jan. 2. Vasquez joins the organization from St. David’s Foundation, where she held the role of director of dental operations. She also serves on the boards of the National Mobile Healthcare Association, KLRU-Austin and Jolt Texas and is will take over, an Austin-based accelerator program serving nonprofit and social good startups and entrepreneurs, announced that Madge Vasquez Mission Capitalco-founder of FuturoFund, an all-volunteer nonprofit supporting the Latino community.

She will replace former CEO Matt Kouri, who stepped down in August to launch a national social advisory firm.

Brian Reaves joined Dell at the end of September as the company’s new chief diversity and inclusion officer to lead the company’s continued commitment to workplace diversity and inclusion.

Reaves comes to Dell from SAP, where he led the development and implementation of diversity and inclusion initiatives. His 30-year career in technology also includes roles as an engineer, executive and diverse leader for large, established companies as well as startups.

Fintech marketing company Kasasa announced Michael Davis as its new chief sales officer this month. Davis will lead in developing the company’s sales department as Kasasa continues to steadily grow. He joins the company with 30 years of sales experience, having previously served as chief revenue officer at YourMembership, and held senior leadership sales roles at Tadiran Telecom, Aspect Software, Siemens Enterprise and Enterasys Network Communication.

"Mike brings with him a set of truly impressive credentials and a strong value system that parallels to Kasasa's core values,” said CEO Gabe Krajicek in a statement. “His industry experience and unique skill set will complement our sales team in a way that will challenge and nurture them as they continue to grow."

CynergisTek, a healthcare cyber security and information management company, welcomed Mac McMillan as its new CEO and David Finn as its first executive VP of strategic innovation.

McMillan, who joined the company in 2017, was promoted internally from his role as president and chief strategy officer. He also serves on the board of directors. Joe Flynn resigned as CEO earlier this month and will step down from his position on the board to pursue an opportunity as CEO of a privately held business.

Finn will lead the overall strategic direction in messaging and industry relations to promote the company’s role in security and risk management in healthcare. He joins CynergisTek with 30 years of IT healthcare experience and most recently held the role of health information technology officer at Symantec Corporation. He also was VP and CIO of Texas Children’s Hospital, an Integrated Delivery System in Houston, and executive VP of Healthlink.
