Austin-based AlertMedia kicked off 2019 with a pocket full of fresh capital and plans to expand.

Raising $25 million from JMI Equity, the emergency communications software provider will add 60 to 70 new employees, increase its international footprint and enhance product development.

“As the global demand for AlertMedia software and services continues to skyrocket, this funding will be used to help us grow our team to satisfy that demand, as well as explore new ways to enable organizations to protect their workers and expand our offering,” Brian Cruver, CEO of AlertMedia, said in a statement.

AlertMedia’s tremendous growth is a result of its innovative technology, intuitive user experience, and best-in-class customer support.”

AlertMedia supports organizations with a two-way communication platform to coordinate emergency responses during dangerous situations. Think: wildfires, earthquakes, terrorist attacks, hurricanes, etc. Once an incident has been identified, AlertMedia delivers updates to employees over text, email, mobile app, voice and social media using one interface to keep employees safe and in-the-know.

Understanding better technology could improve outcomes in emergency situations, Cruver set out to launch Alert Media in 2014 following a series of disasters, including the Sandy Hook school shooting, the Boston Marathon bombing, and a deadly fertilizer plant explosion in West Texas.

Since launch, the company has signed on hundreds of enterprise customers from all over the world, including DHL, British Petroleum, Texas Roadhouse and Walmart.

Today’s funding brings AlertMedia’s total to $42 million, with previous investments from local firms Next Coast Ventures and Silverton Partners. As part of the investment, JMI Equity’s general partner Bob Nye will join AlertMedia’s board of directors.

“We couldn't be more impressed with the AlertMedia team and their ability to execute,” said Nye, in a statement. “The company’s tremendous growth is a result of its innovative technology, intuitive user experience, and best-in-class customer support.”

AlertMedia currently staffs 100 employees. As part of its growth plans, the company will be hiring across all departments including marketing, sales, customer success, G&A, product development and engineering.
