Job Description

RESPEC is seeking and AI Engineer, to join the Texas DPS’s Information Technology Division at an important time of enterprise AI expansion. You will help advance four key priorities: delivering an enterprise search solution, deploying the Darwin AI inventory and monitoring platform, implementing AI agents aligned to operational needs, and establishing practical AI governance controls.

This role is ideal for an engineer who combines hands-on AI implementation experience with strong documentation, testing, rollout, and governance skills. You will work closely with existing DPS technical teams to accelerate delivery across multiple high-priority initiatives.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Build and deploy components supporting an enterprise search solution across DPS systems.
  • Assist with the configuration, rollout, and documentation of the Darwin AI inventory and monitoring system.
  • Support implementation, validation, and testing of AI agents designed around business-unit requirements.
  • Develop technical controls, processes, and supporting documentation for organizational AI-governance adoption.
  • Partner with DPS stakeholders and technical teams to meet accelerated project timelines.
  • Support enterprise AI capabilities that enhance internal operations and public-facing services.
  • Work during standard business hours and, when pre-approved and needed, support work outside normal hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Qualifications

Required Technical Experience

Candidates must demonstrate at least one year of experience in each of the following areas:

  • Building and deploying components of an enterprise search tool.
  • Configuring, rolling out, and documenting the Darwin AI inventory system.
  • Implementing and testing AI agents aligned with business-unit needs.
  • Developing technical controls, documentation, and processes needed to adopt AI governance.

Work Model

This is a hybrid position requiring a combination of on-site work and telework.

Austin, TX 78752

The expected work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time, excluding State holidays when DPS is closed. The specific on-site versus telework schedule is determined by the client.

Candidates must be able to work from the Austin-area location as required. Travel, parking, per diem, and living expenses are the responsibility of the candidate and/or vendor unless travel is specifically approved in writing by the client.
