At Commerce, our mission is to empower businesses to innovate, grow, and thrive with our open, AI-driven commerce ecosystem. As the parent company of BigCommerce, Feedonomics, and Makeswift, we connect the tools and systems that power growth, enabling businesses to unlock the full potential of their data, deliver seamless and personalized experiences across every channel, and adapt swiftly to an ever-changing market. Simply said, we help businesses confidently solve complex commerce challenges so they can build smarter, adapt faster, and grow on their own terms. If you want to be part of a team of bold builders, sharp thinkers, and technical trailblazers, working together to shape the future of commerce, this is the place for you.

We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our Data Solutions organization and support the AI Operations team in building the data foundation that powers automation, analytics, and AI-enabled decision-making across the company. This role will design and maintain the pipelines, data lake architectures, and Snowflake models that ensure clean, reliable, and timely data is available for AI-driven workflows.

You’ll collaborate closely with the Business Analyst, Automation Specialist, and Full Stack Engineer to translate business requirements into scalable data systems that enable automation and advanced analytics. You’ll also partner with other data engineers to build infrastructure that supports AI use cases and helps connect business processes with intelligent, data-driven solutions.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and maintain data lake architectures that support AI Operations workflows, analytics, and automation.

  • Build and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest raw data from internal and external tools (e.g., Salesforce, Crossbeam, marketing platforms) into Snowflake and other structured data stores.

  • Partner with Business Analysts to translate business requirements into scalable, production-ready data solutions.

  • Collaborate with Automation Specialists to connect data pipelines with workflow automation requests, custom GPTs, and AI assistant integrations.

  • Support Full Stack Engineers by developing and maintaining the MCP Server (Message/Command/Processing layer) that connects data services with internal tools and systems.

  • Work with Business Analysts to validate data quality and ensure accuracy across key datasets and workflows.

  • Develop and maintain Snowflake data warehouse models, ensuring datasets are structured, governed, and optimized for AI use cases.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve data ingestion issues, recommending improvements to infrastructure, processes, and tools.

  • Monitor and maintain all data workflows within the AI Operations ecosystem, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability.

Who You Are
  • Experienced – 3+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or related fields.

  • Technical – Strong SQL and Python skills, with hands-on experience building ETL/ELT pipelines (Airflow experience a plus).

  • Data-Focused – Skilled in Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouses (BigQuery, Redshift) and familiar with data lake concepts and best practices.

  • AI Curiosity – Passionate about building AI-driven products and automation systems that transform how teams operate and make decisions.

  • Cloud-Savvy – Comfortable working within AWS, GCP, or similar environments; familiar with Linux command-line operations.

  • Collaborative – Works effectively across teams, partnering with analysts, engineers, and automation specialists to build high-impact solutions.

  • Curious and Innovative – Passionate about AI and eager to explore practical ways to enable automation through data.

  • Problem Solver – Analytical and detail-oriented, capable of diagnosing complex data issues and driving process improvements.

  • Adaptable – Thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment with shared ownership and cross-functional support.
