If you believe data is the root of all problems in automation, you're already thinking like we do.

Most infrastructure teams are still duct-taping their way through automation. Custom scripts that break in production. Fragile workflows held together by tribal knowledge. Technical debt that compounds daily. The problem isn't a lack of tools, it's the absence of a proper foundation for infrastructure data and automation.

OpsMill is building that foundation. Our platform unifies infrastructure intent data and enables teams to scale automation reliably using modern graph technology. As a commercial open-source company, we're practitioners who understand what it takes to automate complex, production infrastructure.

Why This Role Exists

Infrastructure automation is at an inflection point. Network, cloud, and infrastructure teams are adopting GitOps practices, Infrastructure as Code, and modern automation frameworks, but they're missing the critical data layer that makes it all work together. They need version control for infrastructure data. They need a proper source of truth. They need someone who can look at their tangled automation landscape and architect an elegant solution.

As an Automation Solution Architect, you'll work directly with infrastructure and network teams navigating this transformation. You'll diagnose their pain points, design real solutions using OpsMill's platform, and guide them to production success. This isn't about reading slide decks, it's about solving problems that matter with engineering credibility.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Serve as the technical advisor in pre-sales cycles, joining discovery calls and demos to understand customer challenges and design tailored solutions using Infrahub

  • Build custom proof-of-concepts that demonstrate how OpsMill solves real infrastructure data and automation challenges for networks, cloud, security, and data centers

  • Deliver compelling demonstrations that resonate with engineers and architects, showing what's possible when infrastructure data is properly managed

  • Partner with sales teams and technology partners (network vendors, cloud providers, automation tool companies) to design integrated solutions

  • Provide post-sales technical guidance during onboarding and implementation, ensuring customers achieve production success

  • Feed battlefield intelligence back to product and engineering teams, influencing our roadmap based on real customer needs

  • Contribute to the community through blog posts, documentation, demos, and thought leadership that shapes how teams think about infrastructure automation

  • Travel regularly for company offsites (twice yearly), industry conferences, and strategic customer meetings

What You Bring
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience building production automation for complex infrastructure environments (network, cloud, security, data center, campus)

  • Strong Python skills with the ability to write clean automation code and review customer implementations

  • Deep expertise with automation frameworks like Ansible, Nornir, Terraform, or similar tools used in production environments

  • Proven ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, from hands-on engineers to CTOs and VPs of Infrastructure

  • Customer-facing experience in pre-sales, solutions engineering, or consulting roles where you solved technical problems collaboratively

  • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to figure things out without detailed playbooks or hand-holding

  • Remote work excellence including self-direction, async communication, and collaboration across distributed teams and time zones

  • Location in US East, US Central, UK, or Europe for timezone alignment with team and customers

Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience with network automation in production (campus, data center, cloud networking)

  • Contributions to open-source automation projects or active community presence

  • Familiarity with graph databases, data modeling, or schema design

  • Background working with Infrastructure as Code and GitOps practices

  • Experience selling or implementing commercial open-source software

Location & Work Arrangement
  • Remote-first: Work from anywhere in US or Canada

  • Travel: Twice-yearly company offsites (typically 3-5 days) plus regular travel for customer meetings, conferences, and partner events (estimated 25-30% travel)

  • Work authorization: Must be authorized to work in your country of residence

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive compensation package including base salary, equity, and comprehensive benefits. Specific details provided during the interview process.

Benefits include:

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance

  • Flexible PTO policy

  • Home office setup allowance

  • Professional development budget

  • Twice-yearly company offsites in interesting locations

  • Equity participation in a growing commercial open-source company

  • Work-life balance and flexibility for a distributed team

Why OpsMill?

The people: Work alongside world-class engineers who've built and scaled automation platforms in production. Daily technical challenges with smart colleagues who push you to grow.

The product: Shape Infrahub based on real customer needs. Your input directly influences features, integrations, and roadmap priorities.

The mission: We're making enterprise-grade infrastructure automation accessible to any organization. Open-source at the core, production-ready out of the box. This is a multi-year journey, not a quarterly sprint.

The impact: You'll work with teams managing some of the world's most complex infrastructure deployments, solving problems that ripple across entire organizations.

About You

You're energized by working directly with customers to solve hard technical problems. You don't need to be told what to do—you see what needs to happen and make it happen. You thrive in early-stage environments where you're building the playbook, not following one someone else wrote. You want your work to matter, and you're willing to push outside your comfort zone to grow.

If you need rigid structure, detailed processes, and predictable day-to-day work, this isn't the right fit.

Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

OpsMill is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We believe different perspectives make us stronger and more innovative. We encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds and experiences, and we're committed to providing an inclusive environment where everyone can do their best work.

How to Apply

Share with us:

  1. One automation project you're genuinely proud of (and why it mattered)

  2. The hairiest infrastructure problem you've ever solved (and how you approached it)

  3. Why you're considering this opportunity (what are you looking for in your next role?)
