The AWS (Amazon Web Services) Cloud Engineer works within the AWS Operations team and is responsible for supporting Lightedge customers that use the AWS platform. The incumbent will implement custom solutions to fit customer needs while clearly documenting, strategically planning, and effectively executing. The position requires verbal and written communication with customers, vendors and Lightedge personnel. The position may require working off hours (including holidays and weekends) in support of projects and upgrades. A successful candidate has strong experience with AWS services, is self-driven, enjoys learning new technologies, and is willing to stretch themselves to become a stronger engineer and mentor others around them to do the same.
Responsibilities:
- Aiding with the rapid delivery of cloud services as requested by the client and internal projects
- Aiding with the development and delivery of internal continuous improvement plans
- Act as lead engineer for large scale migrations for AWS customers
- Work directly with other cloud engineers to explore new product ideas and engineer solutions as new services are added to AWS
- Collaborate effectively with coworkers and other departments (Security, Networking, Data Protection, and Operating Systems) in support of customer environments, meeting the customers’ needs quickly and effectively.
- Including but not limited to optimizing cost/capacity ratios, proper monitoring, scaling, implementing and validating database DR scenarios, networking, and security frameworks.
- Provide exceptional customer service by communicating clearly and accurately (both verbally and in writing) while maintaining a professional demeanor in alignment with the No Jerks Allowed philosophy.
- Stay abreast of latest AWS offerings and make recommendations to leadership.
- Establish good working relationships with customers
- Take part in an on-call rotation
- Fulfillment of additional duties as required
Experience:
- The ideal candidate will have a System Administrator or DevOps background having previously worked with a Managed Service Provider
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline or an associate degree or equivalent work experience
- 2+ years of system infrastructure design and implementation experience
- 3-5+ years of hands-on AWS experience or equivalent
- 1-2+ years of cloud scripting or equivalent
- AWS compute and platform services such as virtual machines, containers, SQL server and application services
- Demonstrated proficiency with one or more scripting or programing languages (Python, Terraform, CDK/Cloud Formation and JSON preferred)
- The ability to work in both a collaborative and independent atmosphere, be able to think outside of the box to creatively problem solve issues for clients.
- Experience working in an agile environment with the ability to quickly change priorities as required by client demands
- Good communication skills, integrity and excellent organization skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and projects at the same time
- Familiarity with Kubernetes or similar container orchestration systems (EKS/ECS)
- Initiative and problem solving skills: If you don’t know how to do something you consider it a challenge to try to figure it out for yourself
- AWS Certifications (Professional/Specialty level desired)
- Additional desired skills
- Experience with AWS GenAI solutions (e.g. Bedrock, SageMaker, etc.)
- Experience with Modernization of AWS services
- Experience with large data projects (e.g. Datalakes etc.)
- Background in Networking and/or Security
