About Us:
Friday Harbor is a modern AI mortgage underwriting platform. It helps lenders identify problems in a loan file upfront, resolving potential issues earlier, and assembling clean, complete, and compliant files from the start.
We’re a Seattle-based startup backed by top-tier investors (Abstract, Mischief, Wischoff, AI2 Incubator, CoFound) and trusted by leading lenders across the country, including several of the top-25 lenders in the country. While our headquarters are in Seattle, our engineering team is fully remote with quarterly off-sites. We offer flexibility and work-life balance while still fostering a collaborative and creative team environment.

What You'll Do:
Build and ship backend features across our AI-powered mortgage underwriting platform. You'll work alongside senior engineers who will invest in your growth, while also taking on real ownership of features and systems from day one. Expect to move fast, learn constantly, and have your work matter immediately.

- Contribute to LLM-powered features and agentic workflows as you grow your AI engineering skills
- Collaborate closely with a small, high-caliber team where your voice carries real weight
What We're Looking For:
- 2-4 years of backend engineering experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
- Motivated and eager to learn. You move fast, take ownership, and actively seek out more responsibility as you grow.
- Strong communicator who can work effectively across a small, distributed team
- Comfortable working in Python or motivated to ramp quickly
Nice to Have:
- Experience at a startup or fast-moving team
- Exposure to LLMs, AI pipelines, or RAG in any context
- Fintech or regulated industry background
We offer a competitive cash salary ($130-160k), significant equity compensation, and a complete benefits package. Our compensation strategy is geared towards attracting world-class talent and creating the possibility for significant potential equity upside for our early employees.
This is your chance to learn and build cutting-edge AI systems, work with LLMs and RAG, and make a lasting impact in the US housing industry!
