Billing Lead (Remote)

Competitive Compensation + Premium Medical, Dental & Vision Coverage

Why You Should Choose Steno

  • Wins together – Stock options included. When Steno grows, you grow.
  • Invests in you – Premium Medical, Dental, & Vision Coverage - options for you and your family, with 100% of premiums covered for some plans - well above industry benchmarks.
  • Remote-first – with flexible PTO, home office setup, wellness benefits, and a culture that rewards results and supports balance.
  • Constantly innovates with technology at our core – We are a modern organization solving real problems in an industry that needs a revolutionary approach.
  • Emphasizes core values - be highly reliable, constantly innovate, and operate with a hospitality mindset.
  • Competitive Base Salary $70,500 - $87,500 – with real growth potential as you make your mark and build something meaningful.

Why the Billing Team at Steno Is Different

  • Resolve what others can't – You handle the most complex billing scenarios, escalations, and exception cases that go beyond standard playbooks. You make defensible calls in ambiguous situations and own the outcome end to end.
  • Lead and hold the line with BPO partners – Oversee day-to-day billing operations across multiple outsourced partner teams in separate locations. You establish performance standards, run quality audits, and serve as the primary escalation point — getting results through clarity, trust, and accountability, without direct authority over headcount.
  • Bridge billing and product – As Steno builds new agent workflows and billing automations, you keep operational reality in sync with what Product is shipping and catch gaps before they become downstream problems.
  • Build the infrastructure that scales the team – You own knowledge management in Guru, keep SOPs current and actionable for internal and BPO staff alike, and collaborate with our Billing Training and Enablement Manager to develop training that actually sticks.
  • Own the documentation that holds up under scrutiny – You maintain thorough, defensible records across internal and outsourced workflows so that audits are never a scramble and every billing decision can be traced and explained.

You'll crush this role if you have at least 1+ year of direct experience working with or managing outsourced (BPO) teams — including multi-site or multi-location operations — and a track record of holding external partners accountable to high standards without direct staffing authority. Expert-level knowledge of provider billing practices and exception handling is a must. Bonus points if you've got hands-on experience with litigation services, deposition billing, or court reporter provider workflows. The Billing Team at Steno is built on accuracy, ownership, and trust — with our providers, our firm clients, and each other. We hold the work to an exceptionally high standard, invest in the people doing it, and grow together.
