This is a Senior, Regional Sales and Business Development role responsible for growing employer-sponsored pet insurance across a large western/southwestern territory. The person acts as a consultative sales leader, developing relationships with employers, benefits brokers, consultants, and TPAs to increase adoption and enrollment in pet insurance programs.
Beyond selling new accounts, the role is heavily focused on territory growth, broker influence, enrollment success, and long-term market penetration.
Travel is required for this position.
Preferred candidate would live in one of the following states in the territory for this role: Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Utah.
Licensure Requirements:
Property & Casualty license required
State Life & Health license preferred.

As a Business Development Executive, we’ll count on you to cultivate, nurture and maintain relationships with clients, brokers and third-party administrators (TPAs) to increase plan participation rates for a major region of the United States. In addition, you’ll need to take an analytical look toward strategy, results and communication plans to succeed in this role.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Prospects employers to offer pet insurance as a voluntary benefit to drive future and current participation rates.
Develops relationships to develop new accounts.
Analyzes continuing market changes in consumer demand for pet health care and confers with sales management regarding competitor activities, product improvements and marketing and sales development tactics.
Consults with management on opportunities with business partners requiring pet insurance accommodations related to commission payments, sales expenses and marketing support.
Works with marketing support team in coordinating prospects, enrollment roll-outs, literature and customized materials requests and related communications with pet insurance marketing representatives.
Uses customer relations management system (Salesforce) to actively report all contacts and sales actions in an accurate and timely manner.
Resolves issues and questions involving sales transactions, case set-ups, billing and payroll deductions and marketing literature.
Participates in trade shows, program conferences, and other events and takes ownership for cold calls, call-ins, referrals and leads related to new business.
Works with client and pet insurance group administration to coordinate payroll deductions and billing and to set up new accounts.
Participates in staff meetings and recommends actions to improve policies in force counts, total premiums and other operations.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Manager, Group Business Development Executive.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, sales or a related field is preferred
License/Certification/Designation: Licensed property and casualty agent preferred, but not required. If candidate/employee is not licensed upon hiring date, a license will need to be acquired within 60 days of hire date and maintain compliance with various departments of insurance requirements during the course of employment.
Experience: Seven or more years of proven experience in business development, prospecting and account management, preferably in an insurance company or agency specializing in health care-related products.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Long-term marketing penetration, sales development and relationship building strategies; competitor products and services; broker, TPA and client networks within industry; health insurance products, services, and standards; voluntary and payroll deduction employee benefit plans; health and property and casualty brokerage practices and third party administrators; sales methods and closing techniques. Ability to exercise initiative in translating leads to business opportunities and accounts; independently prioritize and manage work tasks; make persuasive presentations and communicate effectively. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to speak in front of others, lead, facilitate and train small to large groups, including employees, policyholders and outside groups. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to tackle practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Working Conditions: Employees work in normal office and/or normal home office environments. Employees are expected to occasionally bend, stoop, reach, lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, including collateral and materials used at vendor fairs, open enrollments, and trade shows. Must be able to travel 50% of the time, in some cases outside of normal business hours/days to attend meetings with clients and brokers, regional tradeshow events, and other in-person events that support business to business sales and partnerships. Some travel may include overnight stay. Must have a valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record in accordance with Nationwide standards.
