Who Are We Looking For?

Vestwell is transforming the way people save for the future through modern workplace savings and financial wellness solutions. We are building a high-performing sales organization where people are coached, challenged, and given a clear path to grow.

The Business Development Representative (BDR) is a six-month development role designed to prepare high-performing sales professionals for a full-cycle Business Development position on our Financial Advisor channel. You will be responsible for creating qualified pipeline while developing the prospecting, discovery, qualification, and relationship-building skills required to succeed in a full-cycle sales role.

This is more than an activity-based BDR role. We expect you to understand who you are targeting, why they should care, what problems Vestwell solves, and how to create meaningful sales conversations.

What Will You Be Doing?

You will be the main driver for converting organic and sourced leads into plan sales within your sales region. That’s just the base-line.

Day-to-Day, You May Also Be Expected To:

  • Execute high-quality outbound prospecting through phone, email, LinkedIn, and other channels.
  • Research accounts and identify relevant decision-makers and business opportunities.
  • Build and manage a healthy prospect pipeline using Salesforce, Salesloft, and other sales technologies.
  • Conduct meaningful conversations that uncover customer needs, challenges, priorities, and business impact.
  • Qualify prospects based on established criteria and create high-quality opportunities for the next stage of the sales cycle.
  • Effectively communicate Vestwell's value proposition and create urgency.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, complete follow-up, and manage daily activities independently.
  • Participate in call coaching, role plays, training, and team development.
  • Take ownership of performance, seek coaching, and consistently apply feedback.

By the end of the program, you should be able to:

  • Consistently generate qualified pipeline (Stage 1 opportunities) .
  • Prospect strategically and prioritize high-value opportunities.
  • Conduct effective discovery and qualification.
  • Build relationships with prospects and Advisors.
  • Handle common objections and advance conversations.
  • Maintain an organized and actionable pipeline.
  • Demonstrate strong business acumen and communicate customer value.
  • Consistently meet or exceed performance expectations.
  • Demonstrate the skills, accountability, and judgment required to eventually own a full sales cycle.

Requirements

You will thrive in this role if you:

  • Are comfortable picking up the phone and starting conversations with people you don't know.
  • Are naturally curious and listen to understand rather than simply waiting to respond.
  • Can handle rejection and maintain consistent execution.
  • Take ownership of your goals, commitments, and results.
  • Are organized and effective at managing multiple priorities.
  • Respond positively to feedback and quickly apply coaching.
  • Can learn complex products and communicate their value clearly.
  • Are motivated by measurable results and continuous improvement.
  • Want to develop into a full-cycle sales professional.

Prior sales or BDR experience is helpful, but we value potential, work ethic, coachability, communication skills, and demonstrated achievement over a specific career path.

Career Path
The BDR role is the first step in Vestwell's structured sales career path:

  • BDR (6 months) → Business Development Consultant → Business Development Director → Regional Vice President
  • Successful SDRs who consistently demonstrate the required performance and competencies will be considered for promotion into Business Development, where they will own pipeline progression, closing, and revenue.
  • The goal isn't simply to become a great BDR. The goal is to develop the skills to become a great full-cycle salesperson.

This role will be based in our New York City or Austin office, and will be part of Vestwell's hybrid in-office operation.

The expected OTE for this position is approximately $72K ($60K base + up to $12K variable). Please note that salary bands are based on NY and other similar metro areas and may differ based on where the role is ultimately hired.

Employee Benefits
We’re an innovative, high-growth company with an exciting future ahead. At Vestwell, we prioritize employee wellbeing through comprehensive health benefits, generous time off, and a dedicated Employee Wellbeing Committee. Our hybrid work model offers flexibility while providing access to our collaborative offices in Midtown Manhattan, Austin, King of Prussia, and Scottsdale. And, of course, as a company focused on helping people save for the future, we offer a competitive 401(k) plan.

Interview Process
Our interview process starts the same for every candidate with 1-2 introductory conversations to learn more about your background, interests, and what you're looking for, while also giving you the opportunity to learn more about Vestwell and the team. From there, the process varies by role but typically includes a skills or experience-based assessment, such as a coding interview, portfolio review, or deeper discussion of your relevant experience. Successful candidates then move on to a virtual or in-person interview panel. Before extending an offer, we complete a reference check with a current or former manager and a peer. Throughout the process, we prioritize transparency, clear communication, and minimizing surprises.
