WHAT YOU WILL DO:

We are currently seeking a Payroll Specialist II to join our team. As a Payroll Specialist II, you will be responsible for processing payroll, employee support, discrepancy resolution, reporting and assisting with tax and compliance, and collaborating with other departments to streamline processes that will ensure smooth processes for all.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies through a full reconcile, and through collaborating with other departments.
  • Generate reports for management and outside departments.
  • Answer employee questions regarding payroll and explain policies and procedures.
  • Verify accuracy of and process timesheets. Calculate wages, commissions, bonuses, and deductions timely and accurately for four pay groups.
  • Assist with ensuring compliance for federal, state and local tax laws.
  • Communicate effectively with managers and other departments in an effort to support them and streamline processes.
  • Sort mail and distribute to appropriate departments.
  • Enter garnishments.
  • Assist with training managers on timesheet review and time reporting.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Experience in Canadian Payroll and Canadian Pay Laws
  • Attention to detail: Given the financial nature of the role, a high degree of accuracy and a keen eye for detail are critical to avoid costly errors.
  • Numerical aptitude: Strong mathematical and data entry skills are essential for calculating wages and performing reconciliations.
  • Computer proficiency: Experience with payroll software (such as Dayforce or Paycom) and strong knowledge of spreadsheet software (like Microsoft Excel) are required.
  • Confidentiality: The ability to handle sensitive employee information with the utmost discretion and integrity is crucial.
  • Organizational skills: Excellent time management and organizational skills are needed to manage a heavy workload and meet deadlines during each pay cycle.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary to interact effectively with employees and other departments.
  • Problem-solving: Aptitude for solving issues and resolving discrepancies that arise during the payroll process.
  • Attitude: Friendly, supportive, resourceful, and ability to take initiative without being told what to do.

  • Multiple years of experience processing payroll.
  • Experience with payroll reconciliation, and post processing procedures.
  • Excellent follow up skills.
  • Pivoting skills in excel.
  • The ability to take initiative.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize. 
  • A desire to own your position.
