Corporate Claims is currently seeking a Claims Representative/Senior Claims Representative/Claim Specialist to join the Reinsurance Claims department located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Great American’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday–Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs. Open to full-time work from home for candidates living outside of greater Cincinnati.

The job grade will be commensurate with the years of experience and skill level of the candidate hired for the position.

To be successful in this role, you should have a strong understanding of ceded reinsurance claims processes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across functions in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

This individual will be part of a team responsible for the daily handling of reinsurance claims, including:

  • Evaluating applicable reinsurance coverage(s) for mainly asbestos, environmental, and abuse claims.
  • Maintain a diary of claims for reporting, updating, and billing losses to reinsurers consistent with the terms of the reinsurance contracts.
  • Responding timely to reinsurer information requests and claims technical inquiries.
  • Understanding reinsurance structures to produce net exposure calculations.
  • Ensure ceded reinsurance claim cessions are recorded in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Document and maintain records for proper claim follow up.
  • Collaborate with reinsurance accounting team by assisting with reinsurance collections as needed.
  • Facilitate reinsurer claim reviews.
  • Participate in reinsurance and team projects as needed.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to other functional areas.
  • Ensure all applicable company policies and procedures are followed.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 0-5 years of reinsurance claims experience. Some knowledge of direct claim handling and/or reinsurance is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of insurance policies, coverage and claim issues for property, casualty and specialty lines of business
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to work with people outside immediate reporting hierarchy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft365 suite of products, specifically Excel.
  • Professional writing and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to cross train in and understand multiple lines of business.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize concurrent assignments and responsibilities.
