The Cloud Engineer IV, reporting to the Manager of Cloud Engineering, is responsible for optimizing and enhancing Availity’s cloud infrastructure across diverse environments, with a particular emphasis on advanced network architecture and operations. This role requires expert proficiency in designing, securing, and automating high-availability cloud networks, ensuring scalable connectivity, cost efficiency, and compliance through robust programming and infrastructure management.

Location: Remote, US

Role qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in cloud engineering, with at least 5 years on AWS.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, or equivalent experience
  • Advanced proficiency in designing, implementing, and securing cloud network architectures, including VPCs, subnets, routing, network access controls, and connectivity solutions.
  • Experience with AWS networking components such as Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, and network security policies.
  • Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks, including Terraform, Terragrunt, OpenTofu, and Ansible. Skilled in automating infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and orchestration across multiple cloud environments
  • Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD, including expertise with GitLab Runner or other similar technologies
  • Familiarity with AWS serverless technologies such as AWS Lambda, API Gateway, or Step Functions
  • Experience with Amazon SQS, Amazon MQ, Amazon SNS, or similar messaging and queuing technologies
  • Knowledge of monitoring and data streaming tools, including CloudWatch Metric streams, Kinesis Data Firehose
  • Advanced scripting skills using Python (preferred), Bash, PowerShell, JavaScript, or similar scripting languages

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner / Solutions Architect
  • Proficient in AWS Organizations, Service Control Policies, and centralized logging/security models.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating third-party networking and security tools (e.g., Tyk Gateway, Palo Alto, HashiCorp Vault) into cloud-native environments.

  • Experience in regulated environments (FedRAMP, HiTrust, DoD IL4+).

What will set you apart:

  • Advanced expertise in AWS, including comprehensive knowledge of AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), Service Control Policies (SCP), AWS Organizations, and Organizational Units (OUs). Proficient in managing and securing AWS environments by implementing robust IAM policies, creating and managing SCPs, and organizing resources within AWS Organizations and OUs to ensure compliance and governance.
  • Proficient in provisioning new AWS accounts in accordance with governance and compliance standards, utilizing Control Tower as needed.
  • Deep understanding of AWS network infrastructure, including VPC, Subnets, NACLs, Route Tables, Direct Connect (DX), Transit Gateway (TGW), and other related components.
  • Experience with multiple Linux distributions including Amazon Linux 2023, Amazon Linux 2, Red Hat, Centos, Ubuntu.
  • Skilled in deploying and managing government solutions (e.g., AWS GovCloud)
  • Background in healthcare information technology.

What you will be doing:

  • Deploy infrastructure daily using terraform.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and DevOps to enhance products and tools, including ticket management.
  • Partner with DevOps team to develop and consume infrastructure solutions
  • Automate scalable infrastructure to reduce manual intervention.
  • Developing automated reporting to promote best practices for efficiency.
  • Partnering with Engineering, DevOps, and Client Services on CI/CD, automated deployments, and event management.
  • Provide backup support for core internal software and IT systems.
  • Create action plans to mitigate unnecessary infrastructure growth/footprint.
  • Deliver recommendations for cloud service optimization.
  • Ensure compliance with security best practices through continuous monitoring.
  • Participate in the Cloud Well-Architected Framework to support operations initiatives.
