Job Summary

The Senior Marketing Specialist will assist commercial agents and support staff with the placement of both new and renewal business and coverages of all lines of business.   The Senior Marketing Specialist will deal directly with, and maintain a close business relationship with, underwriters and brokers on behalf of the agency and agents during the process of securing coverage.   

Essential Job Functions

  • Negotiate premiums and terms for all levels of all lines of coverage
  • Perform all necessary rating sufficient for policy quotation and/or issuance on the carrier website or rating programs; calculate premium when the company-rating program is available 
  • Perform comprehensive coverage comparisons between quote terms and conditions, past and current premiums, including exposure changes
  • Facilitate internal and external meetings when required
  • Coordinate and facilitate renewal meetings with agents and support staff to determine Marketing suggestions for policy expirations
  • Obtain the required information throughout the Marketing process needed to secure quotes and terms, keeping producers and support staff informed of marketing efforts
  • Work with the Operations Manager to keep commercial lines staff informed of new systems, procedures, and insurance company regulations.
  • Serve as liaison with company representatives and keep alert to commercial lines market conditions by scheduling regular meetings with company underwriters and key contacts
  • Meet with company representative to update the carrier appetite, underwriting guidelines, etc.
  • Work with producers to design proposals that demonstrate the firm’s product knowledge and ensure client satisfaction
  • Troubleshoot carrier and coverage matters professionally with the most reasonable outcome for all parties concerned
  • Participate in discussions and reviews of the current market situation as it pertains to specific accounts
  • Attend sales meetings and maintain ongoing communication with sales staff to ensure mutual understanding and support of sales/marketing functions
  • Participate in seminars and other training to maintain required licenses and for knowledge and skill development

Qualifications

Job Qualifications

  • 4-6 Years of previous insurance/marketing experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or other related discipline preferred
  • Valid, state-issued, property and casualty license (or the ability to quickly obtain) required
  • CISR or other relevant insurance designations preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong presentation skills
  • Excellent PC skills, with the ability to effectively utilize the agency’s management systems
  • Sound knowledge of rating procedures and coverage, and industry operations to effectively manage, maintain, and write coverage based upon assigned client and prospect lists
  • Full knowledge of insurance markets
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced, changing priority environment
  • Self-motivated, with the initiative to prioritize and be self-directed 
  • Regular and punctual attendance is required
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both colleagues and managers, across all levels
  • Ability to promote and maintain a team environment, willing to find accommodating solutions for our customers, companies, and the Agency
  • Ability to successfully adhere to company policies and procedures, as well as maintain strict confidentiality

Work Conditions and Accommodations

  • Fast-paced, multi-tasking, office environment with periodic high disruption and changing priorities
  • Ability to perform approximately 80% sedentary work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and negligible force frequently
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally
  • Requires operation of a computer workstation, including keyboard and video display
  • All requirements may be modified to reasonably accommodate physical or mental impairment
