To support our rapid growth, we're seeking a Controller to lead our accounting function and serve as a critical financial partner to our leadership team. Reporting to the CFO/COO, you will own the close process, lead a high-performing team, and serve as the connective tissue between accounting, FP&A, and our technology and operations functions. This role sits at the intersection of technical excellence, operational discipline, and people leadership - and is based in our Austin, TX headquarters.

What You'll Do

Team Leadership & Accountability

  • Lead, develop, and hold accountable a lean but mighty team, including two Senior Accountants and two globally distributed teammates owning AP and AR.
  • Delegate effectively and leverage team capacity to its fullest.
  • Build a culture of ownership, accuracy, and continuous improvement across the accounting function.
  • Coach and develop staff with a genuine investment in their growth and long-term careers.

Close Process & Financial Reporting

  • Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close calendar - reducing time to close while hitting deadlines consistently and holding the team to a high standard.
  • Ensure the integrity of all financial statements, general ledger activity, and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, account analyses, and variance explanations.
  • Support external audit requests and manage relationships with audit and tax advisors.
  • Deliver clean, timely financials (consolidated and channel-level) that inform key executive decision-making.
  • Build infrastructure that scales in both a multi-entity and multi-currency environment.

FP&A Partnership & Business Insights

  • Serve as a strong link between accounting and FP&A, ensuring the close process feeds directly into financial targets, forecasts, and reporting rhythms.
  • Stay closely attuned to where actuals track against plan and proactively surface variances and implications in partnership with FP&A.
  • Tightly manage labor/overhead allocations across our fulfillment network.

Inventory & Order-to-Cash

  • Own inventory accounting including costing, reserves, shrink, and reconciliation.
  • Lead and continuously improve the order-to-cash process, including revenue recognition, AR oversight, collections, and cash application.
  • Manage contra revenue treatments (discounts, credits, rebates) and ensure completeness and accuracy across channels including Ecomm, Amazon, and wholesale.

Technology & Systems

  • Partner closely with our technology team to strengthen our NetSuite environment, integrations, and inventory accounting infrastructure.
  • Champion automation and process improvement initiatives from AI-assisted workflows to system upgrades - that increase close efficiency and reporting quality.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and process documentation as we scale.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build trusted relationships across the organization - with Operations, FP&A, Technology, and channel sales leaders - to stay connected to the business and drive better financial outcomes.
  • Actively manage expenses and hold vendors and internal partners accountable to budgets.
  • Support the CFO/COO on board reporting, fundraising diligence, and M&A-related financial activity as needed.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
  • Deep NetSuite proficiency - you know it well and can help us get more out of it.
  • Experience in high-growth environments, particularly ecommerce-driven businesses with cloud-based tech stacks.
  • Track record of leveraging AI tools to modernize and optimize accounting systems and workflows
  • Inventory accounting expertise in a CPG or product-based business is required.
  • Familiarity with owned fulfillment operations, labor tracking, and P&L allocations across facilities.
  • Multi-entity consolidation experience preferred.
  • Experience owning the accounting function during later stage fundraising rounds (Series B+) or M&A activity is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.

Who You Are

  • A natural leader who holds your team accountable while investing in their development - you build people up and raise the bar at the same time.
  • A disciplined project manager who runs the close calendar with precision, communicates proactively, and doesn't let timelines slip.
  • Someone who rolls up their sleeves- you're not above digging into the details, and your team knows it.
  • Calm, resilient, and grounded - you're a stabilizing presence when things get chaotic, and you bring others along with you.
  • Continuously improving - you look for better ways to do things and hold yourself to the same standard you hold your team.
  • Commercially minded - you understand how your close process connects to financial targets and care about helping the business win.
  • A genuine collaborator - you communicate clearly across functions and know that the best outcomes happen when accounting and the rest of the business move together.

Benefits We Offer

  • Competitive salary, stock options, and healthcare benefits.
  • Free and discounted Made In cookware.
  • A people-centric, flexible workplace with flexible time off.
