Role Purpose
The Data Governance Manager is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, adoption, and operationalisation of Data Governance capabilities that enable trusted master data across Fusion. Working closely with the Data Governance Head, business stakeholders, data owners, data stewards, and project teams, the role will establish minimum viable governance processes, support a light touch Fusion data governance operating model adoption, and ensure data governance activities are embedded into day-to-day business operations.
The role acts as a key liaison between business and technology teams, helping to define data governance practices, coordinate stakeholders, facilitate governance activities, and support the transition of governance capabilities into BAU operations. Beyond process delivery, the role is a genuine change agent for the organisation – a people-focused, collaborative presence who champions a culture of stewardship and ownership, and who is comfortable bringing others along on the journey rather than simply enforcing a process.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Data Governance Implementation
- Define, document, and implement minimum viable Data Governance processes to support Fusion master data management.
- Support the development and embedding of governance controls, decision-making processes, and accountabilities across business units and shared services functions.
- Ensure governance processes are practical, scalable, and aligned to business priorities, designed with the people who will use them in mind, not just the mechanics of the process.
Governance Roles and Accountability
- Articulate governance roles and responsibilities, including Data Owners, Data Owner Delegates, Data Stewards, and System Representatives.
- Support the MDM and Data Governance Head in identifying and onboarding suitable individuals to fulfil governance roles.
- Act as a hands-on guide and trusted point of contact for newly appointed Data Owners, Data Owner Delegates, and Data Stewards, personally handholding them through governance and stewardship processes the first time they experience them, and building their confidence to operate independently over time.
- Promote clear accountability for master data quality, ownership, and decision-making.
Governance Measures and Reporting
- Support the definition of Data Governance success measures, KPIs, and value indicators.
- Assist in establishing approaches for monitoring governance adoption, data quality improvements, and business outcomes.
- Contribute to the development of governance reporting and management information.
Process and Workflow
- Coordinate and facilitate the operation of UAT and post go live Data Governance processes and Oracle EDM workflows.
- Collect stakeholder feedback and identify opportunities to improve governance processes, workflows, and supporting documentation.
- Refine governance artefacts based on real-world usage and lessons learned.
Governance Forums and Stakeholder Coordination
- Support the establishment and operation of governance forums, working groups, and decision-making bodies.
- Coordinate meeting materials, actions, decisions, and follow-up activities.
- Facilitate collaboration across business units, shared services functions, and technical teams.
- Be a visible, approachable presence in these forums, encouraging open dialogue and making sure quieter or less experienced voices are heard.
Documentation and Artefact Development
- Produce and maintain governance documentation, including:
- Governance operating model materials
- Process documentation
- Role descriptions and RACI models
- Governance standards and procedures
- Decision logs and supporting artefacts
- Ensure documentation remains current and reflects agreed ways of working.
Training and Business Adoption
- Develop and deliver training, awareness, and stakeholder engagement materials.
- Conduct workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions with Data Owners, Data Stewards, business teams, and project stakeholders, with particular care for those going through governance and stewardship processes for the very first time.
- Support organisational adoption of governance processes, controls, and tools.
Transition to BAU
- Support the successful handover of governance processes, artefacts, and responsibilities to BAU Data Governance and Fusion teams.
- Assist in establishing sustainable governance practices that can continue beyond project delivery.
- Leave data owners and stewards feeling confident and capable, not just handed a process, so governance sticks after the handover.
- Provide transition support and knowledge transfer to operational teams.
Essential
- Experience supporting Data Governance, Data Management, or Master Data Management initiatives.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills.
- Experience documenting business processes, roles, and operating models.
- Ability to translate complex concepts into practical business guidance.
- Strong workshop facilitation, communication, and presentation skills.
- Experience creating training and business adoption materials.
- Excellent organisational and coordination skills.
- A natural change agent – passionate about people and genuinely energised by helping others adopt new ways of working, rather than simply mandating them.
- Highly collaborative style, with the patience and empathy to handhold newly appointed data owners and stewards through unfamiliar processes.
Desirable
- Experience with Oracle EDM or similar Master Data Management platforms.
- Experience supporting Data Quality and Data Governance programmes.
- Knowledge of governance operating models, stewardship frameworks, and accountability structures.
- Experience working in large, multi-business-unit environments.
- Familiarity with change management and business adoption practices.
- Experience mentoring or coaching colleagues who are new to a role or process.
