Who We Want
We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Director of Produce to lead our produce logistics division at Arrive Logistics, fastest-growing freight brokerage in North America. The Director of Produce will be responsible for overseeing the transportation and management of fresh produce shipments, ensuring timely, efficient, and cost-effective delivery to our clients. This role requires strong leadership, a deep understanding of the perishable goods industry, and the ability to foster relationships with shippers, carriers, and suppliers.
As the Director of Produce, you will manage a team of logistics professionals, develop strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, and ensure the highest standards in service delivery while optimizing operations for profitability.
What You’ll Do
Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of produce logistics professionals.
- Provide guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure optimal team performance.
- Foster a collaborative environment focused on meeting departmental and organizational goals.
Produce Supply Chain Management:
- Oversee the full lifecycle of produce shipments, including procurement, transportation, and delivery.
- Ensure all produce shipments are handled with the utmost care, prioritizing freshness and quality.
- Coordinate and collaborate with suppliers, farmers, and other stakeholders to manage inventory levels and streamline processes.
Operational Efficiency:
- Develop and implement strategies for improving the efficiency of produce transportation, reducing costs, and optimizing resources.
- Monitor and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to the produce supply chain, and make data-driven decisions to improve performance.
- Manage freight contracts, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Client and Carrier Relationships:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with produce clients, understanding their specific needs and delivering customized logistics solutions.
- Collaborate with freight carriers to ensure timely, safe, and efficient delivery of perishable goods.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise with shipments or customer concerns.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure all produce shipments comply with safety regulations, including temperature control and sanitation standards.
- Stay updated on industry regulations, certifications, and best practices relevant to the transport of perishable goods.
Financial Management:
- Manage budgeting and financial forecasting for the produce logistics division.
- Work to optimize cost savings, profitability, and efficiency without compromising service quality.
- Negotiate rates and contracts with carriers to ensure competitive pricing for both the company and clients.
Innovation and Strategy Development:
- Stay ahead of market trends and new technologies related to the transportation of produce.
- Introduce innovative solutions to improve service levels and operational processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in logistics or supply chain management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within the produce or perishable goods sector.
- Deep knowledge of the produce industry, including handling, transportation, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong understanding of freight brokerage operations and the unique challenges of transporting perishable goods.
- Proven experience with budget management, financial analysis, and cost optimization strategies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, carriers, and internal teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in logistics software, transportation management systems (TMS), and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of USDA, FDA, and other relevant regulatory bodies and standards for the transport of perishable goods.
