About the role

We are looking for a Director, Standards & Governance to join our Critical Operations team within Central Operations. As the Director of Standards & Governance, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the operational standards, standard operating procedures (SOPs), compliance frameworks, and governance structures that ensure Riot’s data center operations meet and exceed industry best practices. You will lead the cultural and operational shift from mining operations to critical infrastructure operations, establishing the foundational processes that enable safe, reliable, and consistent service delivery across all facilities.
This is a leadership role that will define how Riot operates — consistently, safely, and at a world-class standard. You will build and lead a team responsible for creating the DC Operations Standards Library, SOP Template Suite, Compliance Audit Framework, Change Management Process, and Governance Dashboard that will serve as the backbone of Riot’s operational excellence.

Travel up to 30% for site visits, facility assessments, and cross-functional collaboration.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and maintain data center operational standards, specifications, and SOPs aligned with industry best practices.
  • Establish and enforce compliance and audit frameworks to ensure all facilities meet regulatory requirements and internal governance standards
  • Lead the cultural and operational transition from mining operations to critical infrastructure operations, integrating legacy teams into data center standards
  • Design and implement a comprehensive change management process that governs all operational changes across facilities
  • Build and maintain the DC Operations Standards Library as the single source of truth for all operational documentation
  • Create governance dashboards and reporting mechanisms that provide leadership visibility into compliance, audit findings, and standards adherence
  • Partner with Technical Training, RCA & Continuous Improvement, and Operational Readiness teams to ensure standards are embedded across all functions
  • Drive alignment with customer requirements and SLA commitments through standardized operational processes
  • Conduct regular assessments and gap analyses to identify areas for improvement and ensure continuous evolution of standards
  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing standards and governance team

What You'll Bring

  • 12+ years of experience in data center operations, critical infrastructure, or mission-critical facility management, with at least 3+ years in a leadership role
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing operational standards, SOPs, and governance frameworks.
  • Experience leading organizational change management, particularly transitioning teams from non-traditional operations to structured data center disciplines
  • Strong background in compliance, and regulatory frameworks relevant to data center operations
  • Experience with CMMS/DCIM platforms and documentation management systems

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: Base salary range $170,000 - $200,000 (commensurate with experience) + bonus + sign-on equity grant.
  • Long-Term Growth: Eligible to participate in Riot’s equity incentive programs and share in the success you help build.
  • 401(k) with Immediate Vesting: Generous company match
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Multiple medical plan options that include 100% employer-paid premiums.
  • Wellness & Lifestyle Perks: Enjoy free gym memberships, pet insurance, childcare discounts, and more to support your life both in and out of work.
