What You Can Expect

This role is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of Marvell’s Global Trade Compliance team, spanning both export and import compliance functions. This includes overseeing the operational implementation of programs supporting compliance with the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulations and sanctions programs, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, and other applicable import/export laws and regulations in the countries where Marvell operates, as well as The Marvell Code.

The role is responsible for evaluating, designing, implementing, and testing compliant systems, processes, and procedures as the team and business scale — including the evaluation and implementation of AI-driven automation and tools to enhance trade compliance efficiency and effectiveness — and for partnering closely with counsel on matters requiring legal interpretation. This is both a strategic and operational role: the successful candidate will architect a trade compliance program designed for high growth, ensuring that systems and processes are calibrated to our risks and built to scale rapidly as the business grows, while also building organizational capability, developing talent, and ensuring the trade compliance function keeps pace with a fast-growing, fast-changing business.

Successful candidates must demonstrate their ability to:

  • Lead, manage, and grow a global team of 14+ trade compliance and trade operations professionals across multiple levels and geographies.
  • Design and architect a trade compliance program built for hypergrowth — evaluating, implementing, and testing systems, processes, and procedures that align with Marvell’s risk tolerance, and leading the program’s strategic roadmap so it scales rapidly and sustainably as the business grows.
  • Operationalize trade compliance programs to ensure Marvell complies fully with applicable export controls, technology transfer/deemed export rules, and sanctions and restricted-party screening requirements, including regulations specific to the semiconductor and advanced computing sectors.
  • Oversee import, customs, and trade facilitation compliance — including classification, country of origin determinations, valuation, customs broker relationships, and duty-mitigation programs such as free trade agreements and trusted trader programs.
  • Serve as the escalation point for ECCN and HTS classification determinations, ensuring a consistent, defensible methodology across the organization.
  • Own the program’s metrics, KPIs, and health reporting — providing regular visibility into trade compliance performance for senior leadership.
  • Conduct trade compliance investigations, participate in internal and external audits, and drive continuous program monitoring and corrective actions.
  • Support M&A due diligence and integration activities from a trade compliance perspective.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement technology tools — including AI-driven automation — to streamline and scale trade compliance operations for a growing organization.
  • Partner with counsel on export licensing strategy, regulatory filings, and matters requiring legal advice.
  • Collaborate across business functions — including Legal, Finance/Tax, HR, Engineering, Supply Chain, Marketing and Sales, and Corporate Strategy — to build integrated, upstream, and forward-looking trade compliance processes.
  • Direct, develop, and execute risk-based trade compliance training and communications.
  • Operate as a customer-centric, business-enabling partner — understanding and responding to critical business needs, prioritizing and reprioritizing effectively across a busy and constantly shifting workload, and promoting a culture of trade compliance and ethics across the organization.
  • Thrive and adapt in a high-paced, high-growth, and rapidly changing business environment.
  • Travel globally to meet with stakeholders, conduct training, and improve processes.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree required; a Juris Doctorate or other advanced degree is a plus but not required.

  • Licensed customs broker a plus.

  • Extensive, hands-on experience in trade compliance, spanning all core areas of the discipline — including transactions, technology transfer, and tariffs — with deep, hands-on expertise in classification (ECCN/HTS) and program management.

  • Proven experience managing and scaling a global team of trade compliance professionals at all career levels, ideally in a high-growth environment.

  • Semiconductor industry or related advanced-technology experience required.

  • Strategic thought leader with strong business acumen and sound judgment.

  • Politically savvy, with strong executive presence and the ability to influence stakeholders beyond formal authority across a complex, matrixed organization.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to distill complex regulatory concepts into simple, actionable terms for the business.

  • Experience managing global trade compliance teams, systems implementations, and budgets.

  • Nimble learner, quick to adopt new tools and technologies; technical or engineering background a plus.

Expected Base Pay Range (USD)

167,100 - 247,310, $ per annum

The successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location and market conditions. The expected base pay range for this role may be modified based on market conditions.

This role is eligible to participate in Marvell's bonus and equity plans, including a new hire equity grant and annual equity refreshers, ensuring you are rewarded for your contributions and remain invested in the company's long-term success.
