Job Description

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and development of electrical building systems throughout all phases of project delivery. Working with increasing independence, this role prepares electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, and analytical models while applying engineering principles, applicable codes, and industry standards.

The Electrical Engineer collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to develop coordinated, constructible solutions for power distribution, lighting, grounding, and low-voltage systems. This position supports construction administration, contributes to technical coordination, and actively develops engineering expertise through continuous learning and professional growth.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

  • Provides technical support and guidance to electrical designers and less experienced engineering staff as assigned.

  • Participates in mentoring, knowledge sharing, and technical reviews to support team development and engineering consistency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop electrical engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and analytical models throughout all phases of project delivery.

  • Design electrical building systems, including power distribution, lighting, grounding, and low-voltage systems in accordance with applicable codes and engineering standards.

  • Perform electrical engineering calculations, including load calculations, feeder sizing, panel schedules, circuiting, voltage drop, and equipment selection under the guidance of senior engineers when appropriate.

  • Prepare coordinated construction documents, single-line diagrams, panel schedules, lighting plans, power plans, and supporting electrical design documentation.

  • Utilize CAD and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software to develop and coordinate accurate 2D drawings and 3D electrical models.

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, designers, contractors, and other project stakeholders to deliver coordinated and constructible electrical system designs.

  • Support construction administration by reviewing shop drawings, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), participating in site visits, and assisting with field coordination.

  • Participate in internal and external project coordination meetings to communicate design progress, resolve technical issues, and support successful project execution.

  • Maintain organized engineering documentation and contribute to continuous improvement through quality reviews, lessons learned, and adherence to engineering standards.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development by identifying development opportunities, expanding technical knowledge, and strengthening engineering judgment to prepare for increasing project responsibilities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience) required.

  • 4+ years of experience in electrical engineering required.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

  • Active NCEES Record for licensure maintenance preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience designing commercial building electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, grounding, and low-voltage systems.

  • Proficiency with CAD and BIM software used for electrical engineering and multidisciplinary coordination.

  • Strong knowledge of applicable electrical codes, engineering standards, and construction documentation practices.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while working effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
