Job Description

We are looking for an Electrical Project Engineer Senior level that will support the North American Service Distribution Team. 

This is a remote position and requires frequent travel to customer sites. 
Vanderlande’s Engineering Department is responsible for the design, specification, and commissioning of Material Handling Systems for our customers throughout North America.

In this position you will be working with an engineering project team focused on 
retrofitting brownfield customer facilities sites with complex automated material handling systems. You will be responsible for ensuring the design meets the customer requirements, is coordinated with other trades to ensure proper operation, can be installed and operated with efficiency, and maintain excellent communication with the site team. 

Success in this role involves the ability to balance the technical requirements of the role while also having the soft skills to collaborate with and motivate the engineering team.  It also involves working closely with stakeholders from other disciplines and other departments to balance priorities, improve processes and satisfy a complex set of goals.  

Success will require strong technical skills, creativity, strong interpersonal 
skills, drive, and passion.  A successful candidate will demonstrate a keen intuition for problem solving and have the knowledge and skills to help other team members to solve problems.  

Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include, but not limited to: 
• Develop compliant electrical and process control systems that meet the customer specifications and safety regulations 
• Peer review designs created by other engineers to ensure compliance to customer specifications and safety regulations 
• Optimize the system functionality from as-sold to a working electrical design within the budget in consultation with other disciplines (Mechanical, Controls, Supply Chain, Installation, etc.) 
• Design, review, and approve system and component level calculations to size 
components and equipment for the application (conductor sizing, voltage drop, 
motor starters, overcurrent and short circuit protection, control panels, control 
networks, harmonic studies, load studies, etc.) 
• Design, review and approve complex process control systems using PLCs, 
Photoeyes, Scanners, DC motors, Solenoids, Beacons, Horns, IO Blocks, Class 2 
Power Supplies, non-Class 2 Power Supplies, VFDs (including STO), E-Stop 
zones, Ethernet Networks, motor branch circuit grouping, etc. 
• Engineering of project specials needed for non-standard design applications 
• Apply safety regulations 
• Specify, review and approve the electrical and process control equipment required for the complete process system that operates and controls both Vanderlande manufactured, and third party purchased items 
• Use software tools (AutoCAD Electrical, Word, Excel, etc.) to develop electrical 
designs such as wiring diagrams, termination lists, Bill of Materials, etc. 
• Document all engineering decisions through design plans, complete and clear 
installation files, and engineering instructions directed to a site supervisor and 
installation subcontractor 
• Travel to site as needed to conduct site surveys 
• Support the installation and commissioning both on site, and from your home office 
• Project document control using a rights-based database system 

Requirements: 
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology 
• Minimum of 8 years of related work experience (4 years must be within the material 
handling industry or other process industry) 
• Or Associate EE/ET with 12 years related experience (4 years must be within the material handling industry or other process industry) 
• Must be willing and able to travel domestically up to 30% 
• Ability to think conceptually (overall process system design) and translate this into a detailed system design 
• Ability to guide others in developing engineering designs and justify the designs based on engineering judgement, industry practice, and codes and standards 
• Ability to work in an entrepreneurial organization were cooperating with others and being a team member is natural 
• Strong communicator, able to effectively understand and set expectations for 
deliverables 
• Able to handle time sensitive situations and quickly set the right priorities, while maintaining a firm grasp of the details 
• Willingness to learn 
• Proactive 
• Ability to work autonomously or in a team even when working remotely 
• Motivator and ability to work well with team members 
• Ability to quickly assess a situation and take appropriate action 
• Strong team mentality and willingness to accept responsibility for project

• Experience in project management or leading teams 
• Ability/Experience using Project Planning & Deliverables Tracking tools 
• Advanced skills in using AutoCAD Electrical or other drafting tools 
• Ability to use Autodesk Suite of tools, including Navisworks 
• Expert knowledge of electrical engineering and system process control theories and principles 
• Advanced knowledge/experience with NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) 
• Experience designing low voltage power distribution systems and process control systems 

Desired Qualifications
• Knowledge/experience with OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Occupational Safety and Health 
Standards 
• Knowledge/experience with NFPA 70E 
• Knowledge/experience with NFPA 79 
• Knowledge/experience with UL 508A and designing UL rated control panels 
• Knowledge/experience with ISO 13849-1 Safety of Machinery

This is a full-time, exempt position, eligible to receive a yearly salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. The salary range listed represents the maximum and minimum starting base pay for this position as of the time of posting. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate-dependent.

 

Salary: $120,00-$140,000 a year.
