Responsibilities

About the role

Within defined guidelines and framework, the Examiner is responsible for adjusting complex bodily injury claims and UIM claims which includes confirming coverage, determining liability, investigating, evaluating, negotiating, defending, and settling claims in compliance with state laws and regulations. The Examiner is accountable for delivering a concierge level of best in class member service through setting appropriate expectations, proactive communications, advice, and empathy.

In this role you will:

  • Identify and manage existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled
  • Manage complex litigation claims, including evaluation, strategy development, and negotiation of settlements
  • Follow written risk and compliance policies and procedures for business activities
  • Adjust complex bodily injury claims with significant demonstrable injuries (e.g. traumatic brain injury, disfigurement, fatality) and UIM claims, as well as all auto physical damage associated with those claims
  • Identify, confirm, and make coverage decisions on complex claims
  • Investigate loss details, determine legal liability, evaluate, negotiate, and arrive at claim settlement within appropriate authority guidelines
  • Clearly document thought process, investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and settlement decisions
  • Prioritize and manage assigned claims workload to keep members and other involved parties informed, provide timely claims status updates
  • Collaborate and support team members to resolve issues and identify appropriate matters for escalation
  • Partners and/or directs vendors and internal business partners to facilitate timely claims resolution
  • Serves as a resource for less experienced team members on complex claims
Qualifications

What makes you an ideal candidate?

  • Expert knowledge and understanding of the auto claims contract as well as application of case law and state laws and regulations
  • Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within 90 days and designated number of attempts
  • Ongoing Professional Development with a focus on Insurance

Education & Work Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred
  • 4 years of casualty adjusting experience required
  • 6 or more years auto liability/casualty adjusting experience preferred
  • 2+ years of Bodily Injury litigation handling experience strongly preferred

Additional Knowledge and Skills

 

Working effectively within an AI enabled environment: 

  • Ability to use AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) to support daily work

  • Skills in evaluating AI outputs for accuracy, compliance, and bias

  • Experience integrating AI into workflows to improve efficiency or insights

  • Familiarity with AI assisted research, summarization, and content generation

  • Understanding of responsible AI use, including ethics and data protection

The base range for this role is: $73.500 - $147.000

At GM Financial, we strive for transparency in all aspects of our business, including pay equity. This is the GM Financial pay range for this role and job level. The exact salary and compensation will vary based on factors like knowledge, skills, experience, and education.

This role is eligible to participate in a performance-based incentive plan. Full time employees are eligible to participate in health benefits on day one of employment.
