About This Role

Our clients are leaders in Higher Education and K-12 institutions with most typically serving as the CIO. These leaders are integral to helping the institution meet the changing demands of the community and students. They are central to using technology to include Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive digital modernization and enable the organization to meet the pace of change and drive business and student success. With the support of their Executive Partner, our clients can assess the changes needed for their organization and accelerate the top priorities of the organization more cost effectively and with a higher assurance of success. 

An Education Executive Partner will serve as a strategic partner that helps clients assess, design, and deliver the change and transformation solutions that will help Education institutions excel. The role requires a leader with a clear understanding of Education institutions, demonstrated change and technology leadership, and experience in advancing business and student outcomes. A successful candidate must know Education industry nomenclature, complexity, department functions, and key roles and responsibilities.  An Education Executive Partner will have experience as a CIO, CXO, or consultant with deep knowledge of the structure, operation, and performance of colleges, universities, and/or K-12 school systems and want to make an impact in the Education community.

What You Will Do

  • Manage a portfolio of members and provide executive advisory services to 25-30 members who work in the Higher Education and/or K-12 sector with client travel projected at approximately 20 percent.

  • Build a strong partnership and work in collaboration with the Gartner Team (Executive Partner, Client Managers and Account Executives) to ensure member engagement, retention, and growth.

  • Proactively participate in all phases of the member lifecycle: pre-sale strategies, client on-boarding, client relationship management, client engagement, outcome-based service delivery, account reviews, and account renewal and growth.

  • Responsible for member retention and contributing to growth through the provision of engagement plans, outcome-based delivery, and Gartner Sales support in prospect cultivation, account plan development and value demonstration activities.

  • Help clients deliver innovative solutions by assessing a member’s mission critical priorities and delivering a custom engagement plan that supports the range of a member’s entitlements and outcome-based service delivery in accordance with Executive Programs best practices.

  • Conduct virtual and onsite strategic consultations and workshops, as well as research analyst visits, roundtables, and webinars in collaboration with Gartner analyst experts. 

  • Facilitate member interaction and peer collaboration through the range of Executive Programs resources and tools applicable to the members in your portfolio.

  • Present or facilitate at Gartner events (e.g., conferences, local events) as applicable.

What You Will Need

  • A Bachelors degree (Masters or Doctors degree preferred) with 15+ years of experience working as a CIO or as a senior IT leader in Higher Education and/or K-12 with large scale and complex responsibilities experience in executive-level roles, or in Consulting/Advisory roles directly supporting the executive level in Higher Education and/or K-12.

  • Experience as an accomplished CIO (or equivalent), with a broad base of business acumen and expertise who has operated at a senior leadership level and driven change at all levels.

  • A robust understanding of the IT industry and the role of the CIO in the Higher Education and/or K-12 communities to include progressive technology exposure to AI and its use in Education.

  • A good understanding of ERP transformation, operational AI, Learning Management Systems, academic technologies, and student life cycle CRM. 

  • In depth understanding of the Business Value of IT and the alignment of business and IT strategies to support regulatory requirements, budget and funding processes, technology enablement, and student success.

  • Demonstrated experience communicating the Business Value of IT to institution leaders, Chief Financial Officers, and stakeholders to include presenting to leadership (e.g., Boards, Presidents, Cabinets, etc.).

  • Demonstrated understanding of the pace of change in IT, to include AI, as educational institutions evolve with the changing demands of the community and students.

  • Demonstrated ability to assess the changes needed in an education organization, plan how to achieve those goals more quickly and cost effectively and lead the delivery of IT solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment to design and implement solutions.

  • Be comfortable in client-facing interactions that require a high level of Executive presence and ability to build trust and deliver value.

  • Demonstrated superior listening, verbal, and written communication skills as well as strong facilitation and presentation skills.

Gartner believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is 160,000 USD - 194,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based, uncapped sales incentive plan.
