Position Title:  Director of Strategy and Special Projects

Department: Strategy

Reports to: Senior Strategist

Status: Full-time, Exempt

Summary

Freedom Forum brings the First Amendment to life through public engagement and education,

working toward a vision of an America where everyone knows, values and defends the freedoms of religion, speech, press, assembly and petition. From targeted and large-scale events to a broader digital presence driving engagement and awareness, Freedom Forum’s work helps empower everyone in America to use their First Amendment freedoms and defend them against government infringement. 

The Director of Strategy and Special Projects will support Freedom Forum’s work to achieve this vision by serving as a critical link within the organization between high-level outcomes and their day-to-day execution, relying on strong communication, adaptability and problem-solving skills.

Reporting to the Senior Strategist, the Director will work with leadership and across departments to help set and manage goals and OKRs, develop clear and actionable project timelines and ensure that organization-wide priorities are organized and on track. 

This individual should be an exceptional project manager and critical thinker, with superior communication and interpersonal skills. They should have a track record of supporting executive teams in developing and executing strategic plans, ideally in a non-profit setting.

Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

Project Management and Administration

  • Serve as a central hub and liaison to ensure that projects and initiatives remain organized, on track and deadlines are met
  • Successfully manage multiple moving parts while maintaining focus on the overall project 
  • Assist with scheduling meetings and coordinating calendars 
  • Cultivate environments where teams work together to make progress toward a shared outcome
  • Provide guidance and support to leadership to ensure deadlines and deliverables are met successfully 
  • Create and manage actionable timelines 
  • Promote collaboration among teams and assist in resolving conflicting priorities 
  • Coordinate work across teams, working with a variety of individuals to draw upon cross-team expertise 
  • Communicate with all internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment
 

Strategic Planning and Analysis

  • Clarify goals and assist in the creation of a detailed plan to achieve them
  • Assist in tracking relevant metrics
  • Gather feedback from team members and analyze outcomes
  • Identify emerging concerns and address them promptly
  • Capture lessons learned, refine future processes and contribute to continuous improvement across the organization
  • Direct special projects and organization-wide strategic initiatives as determined by the CEO or Senior Strategist

Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 3-5 years of experience in project management or a related field 
  • Demonstrated strategic and critical thinker 
  • Track record of translating organizational strategy into actionable processes
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) 
  • Proven ability to motivate and encourage others, working across internal and external stakeholders
  • Should be adaptable and pivot easily  
  • Must possess strong problem solving skills 
  • Strong attention to detail is required 
  • Must possess excellent research and preparation skills 
  • Experience supporting members of C-Suite or executive teams
  • Must demonstrate Microsoft Office program proficiency
  • Ideally have experience managing organization-wide goal-setting, reporting processes and facilitation  


Salary:     The pay range for this position is $125,000 to $131,000 plus benefits.

Location:  If DC-based, up to 10% onsite.  

      If not DC-based, must be flexible with minimal overnight travel.
