The General Counsel, Control Systems and Software will be responsible for leading strategic and tactical legal initiatives for the Control Systems and Software Group, partnering with Senior Management on Emerson strategies and their implementation. Serving as the key legal business partner to the Control Systems and Software Group for all assigned functional areas, such as human resources, sales, procurement and vendor management, manufacturing, quality, marketing, finance, product management, etc.  The General Counsel, Control Systems and Software will work closely (via dotted line) with the four World Area Control Systems and Software Group Points of Contact, delivering key business messaging and driving bespoke support when required to the World Areas through these Points of Contact, as well as supporting implementation of the Business Group’s initiatives relative to commercial legal support within the various regions. The successful candidate will be a key member of the VP, Global Legal Commercial’s Leadership Team. The individual will be expected to collaborate closely with the other members of the Commercial Legal Leadership Team, as well as the Practice Group Leaders within the Law Department in order to provide broad support for the Control Systems and Software Group. 

 
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
  • Provide expert and strategic legal advice to Senior Management on complex, high profile legal matters for the Control Systems and Software Group, including acting as liaison between business management and other practice groups within the Law Department as well as outside counsel;

  • Lead the evolution and implementation of the vision, mission, strategy and initiatives of the Law Department for Control Systems and Software;

  • Act as lead attorney and strategic business partner for Control Systems and Software’s business leadership;

  • Work closely with the World Area GCs, the World Area Control Systems and Software Group Points of Contact, other regional Generalists and outside counsel (as required) to ensure compliance with Emerson policies and applicable legal and regulatory requirements;

  • Provide regular training to Business Group personnel with respect to applicable regulations, Emerson’s policies and procedures and best practices;

  • Provide Business Group specific support, and advice to members of the Commercial Legal team to enable them to provide efficient and effective advice to their business partners;

  • Mentor, develop and train other members of the Commercial Legal team, establishing an effective team culture;

  • Keep Senior Management and Law Department management fully advised of all significant developments concerning all material matters in a timely fashion;

  • Exercise good professional judgment, act with integrity, and drive results at all times to protect and enhance the image and reputation of Emerson;

  • Support the VP, Global Legal Commercial with the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that will enhance the effectiveness of the Commercial Legal team;

  • Support the VP, Global Legal Commercial, the Chief Legal Officer and other relevant stakeholders in:

    • Implementing corporate policies throughout all applicable areas of the Business Group;

    • Strategic projects in different areas (e.g. leading the implementation of various legislation, applicable new directives and regulations).

  • Overseeing the post-acquisition legal integration process of acquisitions for Control Systems and Software where applicable and collaborate with the World Area GCs and the GC, Global Contracts to implement integration initiatives across regions.

  • Work closely with other Law Department functions to ensure alignment with Enterprise goals and effective implementation thereof across the Control Systems and Software Group.

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams including marketing, finance, and IT to drive strategic initiatives and achieve company-wide goals. 

  • Collaborating with the Commercial Legal Subject Matter Experts when areas within their respective expertise are required to be supported for Control Systems and Software.

For This Role, You Will Need:
  • Relevant years of relevant work experience in a commercial and international field (in-house or private practice)
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one State within the US 
  • Law Degree from an accredited law school
  • Comfortable working with senior management
  • Intermediate MS Office skills
  • Excellent oral and written English skills
  • Willingness to travel
  • Deep knowledge of complex and challenging business environments
  • Familiarity with the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and broader cybersecurity regulatory frameworks
  • Strong leadership skills, self-motivated, and dedicated to getting involved in all kinds of legal matters and business areas
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.
