General Legal seeks U.S.-barred attorneys for future opportunities across technology transactions, employment, data privacy, financial regulation, blockchain, cryptocurrency, litigation, IP, corporate, and venture capital. Attorneys will deliver sophisticated legal work using AI-native workflows, advise high-growth companies, communicate directly with business stakeholders, and work independently in a remote-first environment. Relevant substantive experience is required, while technology-company experience, process improvement, mentoring, and subject-matter leadership are preferred.

Don't see a role that matches exactly what you do? That's okay. This is a general interest application for attorneys who want to be part of General Legal but don't fit neatly into one of our current openings.

About General Legal

General Legal is an AI-native law firm built to deliver high-quality legal work faster and more predictably than traditional firms. We combine top-of-market, U.S.-barred attorneys with AI-native workflows to handle drafting, review, and negotiation end to end — without billable hours, bloated process, or junior handoffs. We operate like a startup because we are one. That means modern tooling, outcome-based pricing, remote-friendly work, and meaningful ownership for the people doing the work. By using AI to handle the routine parts of legal work, we give our attorneys the space to focus on judgment and the issues that actually matter to clients.

We're growing across technology transactions, employment, data privacy, financial regulatory, blockchain and cryptocurrency, and emerging companies and venture capital — and we're always looking for great attorneys, even when we don't have an open role that matches their background yet.

Why Apply Here

Our open roles change often, and a lot of the attorneys who end up being the best fit for GL don't apply through a specific job post — they reach out because they believe in what we're building and want to be considered when the right seat opens up.

If that's you, we'd like to hear from you. We keep general interest applications on file and reach out when a role lines up with your background.

What We're Looking For

Background & Experience

  • J.D. from an accredited law school; active bar membership in good standing
  • Strong substantive experience in a practice area relevant to growing companies — litigation, IP, regulatory, corporate, employment, or something adjacent we haven't listed
  • Experience in or advising high-growth technology or emerging companies is preferred

How You Work

  • You are fast and good
  • You use AI tools in your practice today, not theoretically
  • You produce clean, sophisticated work product
  • You communicate directly: clear recommendations, appropriate caveats, no filler
  • You're self-directed and don't need hand-holding, but you collaborate well and know when to loop people in
  • You build relationships and earn trust with non-lawyers—business and product people included

Bonus Points

  • You've built or improved a legal intake, playbook, or contracting process from scratch
  • You have a vertical or subject matter you'd love to grow or lead
  • You've mentored junior attorneys and/or contributed to team development in a meaningful way

The Structure

This is a remote-first role with periodic in-person on-sites for team collaboration, planning, and the occasional celebration. We trust you to do your best work from wherever you do your best work.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary, equity, and benefits eligibility will depend on the specific role and level once we identify a fit — but every full-time attorney role includes equity, benefits eligibility, and no billable hours.

How to Apply

Send us your resume along with a few sentences on your practice area(s) and why GL caught your interest. Let us know if there's a specific practice area or role you'd want to grow into. We read every application, and if nothing's open right now, we'll keep you in mind as we build out the team.

We are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team.
