About Autonomize AI

Autonomize AI is revolutionizing healthcare by streamlining knowledge workflows with AI. We combine data and context to reduce administrative burden, elevate decision quality, and empower professionals to focus on what truly matters — improving lives.

Our mission is to make knowledge workflows more efficient by seamlessly combining data and context. Our vision is a world where AI is a catalyst and an extension of human cognition, enabling organizations and individuals to achieve their maximum potential.

We are growing rapidly and looking for exceptional builders who are energized by ambiguity, move with urgency, and want to solve some of healthcare’s hardest problems with AI.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Head of AI to lead the next phase of Autonomize’s AI strategy, research, and execution. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for turning emerging AI capabilities into reliable, scalable, production-grade systems that deliver real customer value.

You will own the AI roadmap, build and mentor a world-class AI team, drive technical excellence, and partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Clinical, and Customer teams to ensure our AI solutions are trusted, impactful, and differentiated.

The ideal candidate is both a deep technical expert and an exceptional operator — someone who can dive into model architecture one day, align teams around priorities the next, and personally drive critical initiatives across the finish line.

This is not a role for a passenger. We are looking for a driver who thrives in a scaling environment, takes full ownership, and wants to define the future of healthcare AI.

Key Responsibilities

AI Strategy & Technical Leadership

  • Own Autonomize’s AI vision, strategy, and roadmap aligned to business and customer outcomes.
  • Identify emerging AI opportunities and translate them into scalable product capabilities.
  • Lead architecture decisions across machine learning, generative AI, LLM applications, retrieval systems, evaluation frameworks, and AI infrastructure.
  • Establish technical standards for reliability, performance, safety, and scalability.
  • Balance research velocity with production excellence.

Build & Scale the AI Organization

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing AI team.
  • Create an environment where engineers and researchers operate with ownership, curiosity, and urgency.
  • Define team structure, operating rhythms, and technical excellence practices.
  • Raise the bar through coaching, feedback, and hands-on technical leadership.
  • Build a culture where people compound their impact and elevate the system around them.

Production AI Execution

  • Drive AI initiatives from concept through deployment and measurable customer impact.
  • Own the full lifecycle: experimentation, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
  • Develop frameworks to measure AI quality, accuracy, safety, and business impact.
  • Partner with Engineering to build scalable AI platforms and infrastructure.
  • Ensure AI systems operate reliably in complex healthcare environments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Product, Clinical, Customer Success, and Operations teams.
  • Translate customer problems into AI solutions that create meaningful outcomes.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Build trust through transparency, reliability, and consistent execution.

Customer-Centric Innovation

  • Stay deeply connected to customer workflows and healthcare challenges.
  • Ensure AI solutions solve real-world problems, not just technical challenges.
  • Champion responsible AI practices that prioritize trust, precision, and human impact.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience building and deploying AI/ML systems in high-growth technology environments.
  • Proven experience leading AI/ML teams and scaling technical organizations.
  • Deep expertise in modern AI approaches including:
    • Large language models (LLMs)
    • Retrieval augmented generation (RAG)
    • Agentic workflows
    • Model evaluation and optimization
    • ML infrastructure and production systems
  • Experience taking AI products from research/experimentation into production.
  • Strong technical judgment with the ability to make architectural decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in ambiguity and high-growth environments.
  • Exceptional communication skills with executives, engineers, customers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong ownership mindset — you take responsibility from idea through impact.

Ideal Candidate Profile

You are someone who:
  • Owns the entire outcome — not just your functional area.
  • Goes deep technically but knows when to zoom out and align teams.
  • Moves quickly while maintaining high standards.
  • Creates clarity in ambiguous environments.
  • Builds systems, teams, and processes that scale.
  • Challenges ideas respectfully and encourages open dialogue.
  • Has relentless curiosity and continuously experiments.
  • Understands that trust is earned through quality, reliability, and execution.

Bonus Points

  • Experience building AI products in healthcare, life sciences, or regulated industries.
  • Experience with clinical AI, medical knowledge workflows, or enterprise AI adoption.
  • Experience scaling AI teams from early stage through growth stage.
  • Published research, patents, open-source contributions, or recognized technical leadership.
  • Experience working directly with enterprise customers.

What We Offer

  • A chance to make a real impact on the future of healthcare.
  • The opportunity to build category-defining AI products.
  • Significant ownership and autonomy in shaping AI strategy.
  • A high-growth environment with exceptional technical challenges.
  • Competitive compensation package with performance incentives.
  • 100% employer-paid health, vision, and dental insurance.
  • Retirement plans (401k), disability insurance, and employee assistance programs.
