The role involves developing and automating infrastructure management tools at scale, focusing on reliability and performance for Cloudflare's services.
About the department
Cloudflare's Resiliency Engineering Team builds and runs the systems and software that support our solutions that handle trillions of requests per month. Resiliency Engineering ensures that all new and existing features and functionality that Cloudflare offers can be managed at scale and meet the needs of our massively growing customer base.
The Infrastructure Tooling Team within Resiliency Engineering is responsible for defining, building and supporting tools and services used across Cloudflare to manage its infrastructure. These tools enable both Cloudflare's daily operation and its relentless growth.
What you'll do
In this role you'll have an opportunity to work on our internal infrastructure control plane application "Zinc". Zinc is a Rust application that is used to manage our global fleet of servers and network devices. Zinc answers every device's question: what am I, what do I do? The service is high performance, highly available, and is special in that it also shares few dependencies with most other Cloudflare services, since most systems have a dependency on Zinc.
Your work on Zinc will directly affect the efficiency and resilience of Cloudflare's vast global server and network infrastructure. If you are passionate about optimizing and scaling globally distributed systems, this may be the team for you!
Read more about Zinc in the Cloudflare blog: Redefining Fleet Management at Cloudflare.
Because you'll be solving problems of great significance, and shaping the future of the Internet, you are a growth-oriented individual who enjoys being outside of your comfort zone in a fast-paced environment.
Examples of desirable skills, knowledge and experience
The ideal candidate for this position is curious, hard-working, and loves owning and improving critical infrastructure services.
We're interested in candidates who bring:
