Job Description

A client of IQ Business Group requires the services of one (1) Java EE Modernization Analyst (Legacy Applications / Cloud Migration) (hereafter referred to as “Candidate”) who meets the general qualifications and the specifications outlined in this document.

All work products resulting from the project shall be considered “works made for hire” and are the property of the client of IQ Business Group. The engagement includes pre-selection requirements, including criminal background checks as authorized by Texas law.

General Systems Analyst Responsibilities

The Candidate understands business objectives and problems, identifies alternative solutions, and performs studies and cost/benefit analyses of alternatives. The Candidate analyzes user requirements, procedures, and operational problems to automate processing or improve existing systems.

The Candidate will:

  • Confer with personnel of organizational units involved to analyze current operational procedures, identify problems, and learn specific input and output requirements (e.g., forms of data input, how data is summarized, and report formats).
  • Write detailed descriptions of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer programs.
  • Review computer system capabilities, specifications, and scheduling limitations to determine if requested programs or program changes are possible within existing systems.

Java EE Modernization & Legacy Transformation Responsibilities

The Java EE Modernization Analyst (Legacy Applications / Cloud Migration) is expected to contribute to the design, development, and deployment of enterprise-grade applications using Java EE technologies, while aligning with the client’s goals of modularity, security, and interoperability.

Responsibilities include:

  • Analyze legacy Java EE components, including EJB, JPA, and SOAP services, to support architectural decision-making.
  • Participate in application rationalization and transformation planning.
  • Support technical walkthroughs and documentation activities to map current application behavior, dependencies, and integration points.
  • Collaborate with architects and business analysts to help ensure modernization efforts retain core business logic and interoperability.
  • Assist in migrating legacy systems to cloud-native platforms, emphasizing microservices and API-driven architectures.
  • Utilize AI code analysis tools to examine legacy Java EE applications.
  • Extract and document detailed business requirements and rules based on existing code.
  • Work with business stakeholders and technical teams to validate and refine identified requirements.
  • Identify and record technical debt, design patterns, and architectural details within legacy systems.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: Candidates who do not meet or exceed the stated minimum requirements (skills/experience) are welcome to apply but will NOT be considered for this position; however, they may be suitable for future roles.

12 Years Experience – Required
• Deep hands-on experience in Java and Java EE development, including EJB, JPA, and SOAP-based services. Able to analyze legacy codebases and identify transformation paths for cloud migration.
• Proficiency in Java SE 1.8 and Java EE 8, including deployment on enterprise-grade application servers.
• Experience with object-relational mapping and integrating persistence layers with business logic.

10 Years Experience – Required
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams including architects, business analysts, and security engineers to align development with business goals.

8 Years Experience – Required
• Proven experience with, or strong understanding of, AI code analysis tools for static analysis, code understanding, and pattern recognition.
• Familiarity with DevSecOps practices, including automated testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Exposure to cloud-native transformation strategies, including containerization, elastic scaling, and loosely coupled interfaces.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies, sprint planning, and backlog refinement in collaboration with product owners and SMEs.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
• Strong understanding of software design principles and patterns.

6 Years Experience – Preferred
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience with requirement elicitation and documentation.

2 Years Experience – Required
• Experience using AI development tools.

 

Services are expected to start January 19, 2026 … complete August 31, 2026

Total estimated hours shall not exceed 2,000.

This service may be amended, renewed, and/or extended providing both parties agree to do so in writing.

Services shall be provided during normal business hours unless otherwise coordinated through the client of IQ Business Group. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding State holidays when the client is closed.
