We are currently seeking an experienced Claims Manager – Commercial General Liability to join our team. This role is responsible for leading a team of Claims Professionals handling General Liability claims, including those of moderate complexity and severity across multiple jurisdictions.


The Claims Manager will play a critical role in driving technical excellence, operational performance, and customer service outcomes while contributing to strategic initiatives that shape the future of our claims organization.


This position can be located in one of our claims offices, with the possibility of working remotely.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, develop, and manage a team of claims professionals handling Commercial General Liability claims.
  • Assign claims and workload based on complexity, severity, and staff expertise.
  • Provide technical coaching and development in coverage analysis, liability investigation, damages evaluation, negotiation, and litigation management.
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous learning.
  • Manage all personnel-related functions including performance evaluations, career development, and training.
  • Positively influence and guide team members through organizational and industry changes.
  • Oversee all aspects of claims handling including investigation, evaluation, reserving, litigation management, negotiation, and settlement.
  • Conduct regular claim file reviews and audits to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to best practices.
  • Participate in and/or facilitate claim roundtables focused on coverage, liability, and damages evaluation.
  • Approve reserves and payments within authority levels and escalate recommendations as appropriate.
  • Monitor reporting and system data to ensure adherence to performance and compliance standards.
  • Promote a customer-centric culture that delivers a high level of service and exceeds stakeholder expectations.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and claim outcomes.
  • Assist leadership with special projects and strategic initiatives requiring advanced claims expertise.
Qualifications
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance laws, coverage principles, and general liability claims practices.
  • Strong contractual analysis skills, including insurance coverage interpretation and risk transfer evaluation.
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and team development capabilities.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and lead diverse teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with claims systems and business technology.
  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and adaptability.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of Commercial General Liability claims experience, including exposure to moderate to high severity bodily injury claims.
  • Minimum three (3) years of team leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience handling claims across multiple jurisdictions strongly preferred.
  • Valid claims adjuster’s license (or ability to obtain) in applicable jurisdictions.
